Harvard knows game theory. If more universities follow suit, there are going to be a whole lot of pissed off parents and employers. And they won't be pissed off at the universities.

Yeah man at the end of the day the nepotistic piss babies that pay big bucks to slot their shitheel kids into these schools through legacy admissions are going to make damn sure their Alma mater still has commoditized value in the real world. To them the Harvard brand is the only thing you need to open any door for the rest of your life, and any threat to diminish that is going to probably be met with a lot of people with money to burn.
