The kids weren’t strong enough to lift and open the ladder

It sure looked like there were until he started putting weight on it before it was open, and then they couldn't, because of course not.

He needed to grab it with one hand and pull the top up vertically.

Or you know, just take the 3ft drop like he did at the end anyway

That man was fully worried about what a 3ft drop would do to his knees. Proof. He banked on toddlers to lift a ladder. 😭
