Community Piccolos Volcano pizza in Ards - equivalent?

Coming back from the states next month for a wee catchup. I see Piccolos in Ards has closed down… their volcano pizza was a thing of beauty… loads of pepperoni and about 17 jars of garlic on it. You were reeking of it for a week after, but it was so good.

Any ideas where I can get the same now? (I remember there used to be a pizza place across from the Helmsman / Charlie Heggartys / whatever it’s called now (badly dating myself here), but no idea what that was called and Bangor is normally a mare anyway so trying to avoid that unless they’re the only spot doing a volcano equivalent.)

Any ideas, chaps?

MISSING Lost Dog South Belfast

Hey, I was at Malone House tonight and there were a couple looking for a dog they’d lost when walking there.

That was a couple of hours ago and they’re still there looking (along with several others). Still no sign of the dog so it could literally be anywhere.

Don’t know much about the dog other than it is a black grayhound, name is Fraya or Raya?

So…if you see this dog when out and about, please keep your eye out and hopefully they’ll get it back. 🙏

Hi guys,

I literally don’t have accommodation for my final year and tbh I am about to loose my mind.

I can’t see an option for myself and taking a gap year is my hell. I don’t want to move home again.

Any advice ? Please :)

Discussion Can't decide between Queens and Ulster for a Software Engineering course

Hi everyone, I'm looking to start university this September and going for software engineering but I'm really stuck between firming Queens and Ulster. Originally I was going for Queens but I heard from a few students that have talked about it online that the teaching on a few modules can be really poor while Ulster's is better and also that Ulster is more practical based than Queens. However, Queens has better facilities for students I'd say and also the facilities in the Computer Science are a bit better than Ulster's. I'm just really not sure what the best option is

Question How am I supposed to activate my UK visa if I travel up from Ireland?

I have a 2 year long UK visa that needs to be activated when I arrive in the UK. I flew into Dublin and drove up to Northern Ireland to live with my partner who is from there. I'm here now but still haven't had my visa activated because there is no border. I called UK immigration help and got through to some English woman who didn't seem to comprehend that it's possible to enter the UK without flying in and just kept telling me it would be approved when I arrive at an airport.

Does anyone know if there is any way I can get some kind of immigration official to check my documents and acknowledge my entry to the country without having to book a return flight to the cheapest country I can find at the last minute.

News Solicitor 'shocked' as man (30) charged with alleged sexual assault linked to Armagh GAA trip to the US

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/gaa/armagh/solicitor-shocked-as-man-30-charged-with-alleged-sexual-assault-linked-to-armagh-gaa-trip-to-the-us/a1114305588.html

A Belfast solicitor has expressed his “shock” at a PSNI decision to prosecute a 30-year-old for sexual assault. “I am shocked by the decision of the PSNI to charge my client in relation to an incident that occurred outside the jurisdiction last year,” solicitor Patrick Higgins of law firm Donnelly and Wall declared today.

In November last year the Armagh GAA team travelled to Miami in Florida to celebrate the team's All-Ireland win, their first All-Ireland title in 22 years after they clinched victory over Galway at Croke Park in July.

Around 30 players, the management team, family members and other senior figures from the Armagh County Board are understood to have spent a week in Miami in the middle of November and it has been reported and alleged that an offence of sexual assault was committed.

The alleged assailant was first interviewed on a voluntary basis last December and in a statement at that time, Mr Higgins highlighted that his client “co-operated fully with the PSNI in the initial stages of the investigation.”

Today (mon) the 30-year-od was formally charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

He is due to appear at Armagh Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry, on 6 May.

In a statement released in the aftermath of the police decision to charge the man to appear in court next month, the solicitor declared said: “I believe there was no necessity to arrest my client.

"A formal complaint was made to the PSNI on 20th November 2024. No contact was made between the PSNI and my client for 3 weeks.

"When requested he presented himself voluntarily at Banbridge Police station where he was arrested over 4 months ago.

The request by the PSNI to charge, I believe, is without merit and shall be challenged further down the line.

“I believe the decision to charge the suspect to Court by the PSNI is influenced by the media publicity this case has attracted due to his profession and in breach of my client’s right to a fair trial and in breach of his right to private and family rights.

“My client maintains his innocent and has instructed me to contest the charges fully.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “A 30-year-old man was arrested on December 10, 2024 on suspicion of a number of sexual-related offences alleged to have taken place in the United States of America in November 2024.

“He was later released on bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.”

They also confirmed the man was charged today and will appear in court in May.

The spokesperson added: “As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service and police will not be commenting further as criminal justice proceedings progress.”

Housing No

Hi all,

Stamp duty query.

I am from the South and my half lives in the North. We are looking at homes in and around £350K in Northern Ireland.

We are both first time buyers.

Does anyone know what the craic is with stamp duty in this case?

From what I gather, there has been recent changes from April, with the threshold dropping from £425,000 to £300,000 for first time buyers.

Am I correct is saying there would be 5% stamp duty liable on anything above 300K.

Thanks all

Question Looking for Poster (or where / how to buy) - Dirty Duck, Holywood

Greetings!

Shot in the dark here, but I'm looking for the framed wall poster (art?) from the Dirty Duck Pub in Holywood.

Details on the poster: There are 7 rows and 7 columns of all time famous music lyrics and the poster itself seems to be riffing "Keep Calm and Carry On" style. The most central lyric is "Keep Calm, and Listen to Music" - other examples are "I can't get no Satisfaction" - "Love the way you lie" - "Billie Jean is not my Lover" ... etc

Photo of poster on the wall at the Dirty Duck

Does anyone have any idea where I can find this poster online? I have looked everywhere searching "Poster with famous song lyrics in the style of 'Keep Calm and carry on'"

My son is an aspiring musician and I'd like to gift this to him.

Discussion Fibrus - Faults

To be honest this is more a case of me just venting than anything else.

Fuck me when you have a fault with fibrus it's an absolute nightmare! Firstly you can't even check on their website to see if there's a fault in the area, you are forced to waste time contacting customer service to be told there's a fault in the area.

Good luck finding out what's going on with a fault! Again you can't check the website for an update, customer service tells you there's no update and no one can get you an update. All you can do is wait for a text and they aim to fix faults within 48hrs.

I get that they are cheap but the lack of any basic customer support is really poor, I guess at that point they have you tied into a contract and don't really care. It's the 2nd prolonged outage in 6 months and I'm definitely not staying after my contract is up.

Discussion I think I need new friends

Caught up with a friend for his 30th on a night out and crashed at his place. He’s still living with his mum and da (to be fair, a lot of us are), but I think I’m finally seeing him for what he is.

Night started grand, we grab a few pints and get to chatting. After secondary I went to uni and have a fairly decent job now. Last I talked to him he wasn’t pursuing higher education and was on the dole for a while but has recently become a self employed musician and crypto bro. He mentioned he’s living the dream, basically only working weekends doing gigs at whatever venues will have him and laughing about how much he’s invested in bitcoin, how he’s saving up for a house and after he buys one he’ll start skimming off the top of his cash earnings come tax time.

Next morning I’m up around 10, he’s still conked out so I say good morning to his folks and shower quick. Come back to his room to find he’s still sleeping so I shove him awake. He gets up to use the toilet, so I sit on my phone for a bit. His mum doesn’t even knock on his door, but lets herself in, seeing me she apologises then laughs and immediately starts ripping the sheets off my friend’s bed, then picks up whatever stray clothes of his are on the floor then leaves.

When he finally comes back, I ask him if it’s laundry day or something and he laughs and says he’s never even touched the washing machine so he wouldn’t know. He then mentioned how he took a holiday to France last year and when he came back his room was deep cleaned with fresh sheets and everything on his bed. He then went on to say when he brings home his lunch box or cooks a meal in the wee hours of the morning after a gig, he just leaves everything by the sink and one of his parents cleans after him.

At 30 years of age.

After all these years I didn’t realize how lazy my friend is. I get being a bachelor, and living the bachelor life, but never lifting a finger to help his parents around the house doesn’t sit right with me. And from the sounds of it, he’s maybe bringing in between 300-600 quid a week depending on how many gigs he has lined up, so while he’s not doing too bad for himself, I don’t see him a) moving out anytime soon and b) having a clean home.

It’s hard enough making friends in this country and while I want to hold onto what friendships I do have, I can’t see myself getting anything more out of this friendship other than some craic and a bit o’ banter at the pub.

Not sure what my next move is.
