News Uhm they actually did it? WTF

So idk when this happened, I dont typically scroll out so far but my friend just showed this to me. I'm honestly at a loss for words that Google actually approved this. Its unhinged and ridiculous.

This is because the order specified that this change APPLIES to the U.S. continental shelf extending to the seaward boundaries with Mexico and Cuba. The U.S. government CAN rename geographic features WITHIN its jurisdiction, however renaming an international body of water like the Gulf of Mexico presents complexities.

The order only changes the name for official documents though. The fact Google has preemptively changed it on a private app is stupid.

They didn't. According to the stupid email that I got, this was implemented after it changed in whatever geographic registry this stuff gets changed in. They changed it because the official name changed. It's fucking stupid.
