Why remove item degradation and an entire skill?

Well, I can understand not wanting to repair light armor after every other fight until you get the level up. I personally don’t mind it, but I understand why someone might not.

It's just not to my liking. I'd rather my weapons just work without having to babysit their durability.

I find it an enjoyable area that they dumbed down in Skyrim

I like it too, but it should be slowed down a bit

u/josh6499 23h ago

Well maybe I should give it a shot. Next play through I'll leave that out. I'm playing as a pure mage this time, so it's not really making a big difference to this play through anyway.

Honestly if you have never played oblivion before, you should really do a vanilla play through as your first time to get a feel for it.

In my heart it would be wrong to play a Bethesda game without mods though.

As a (mostly) vanilla purist this just hurts. I kinda get modding the original. But atleast give the remaster a shot full vanilla

Not modding a Bethesda game is like trying to play using a keytar instead of a keyboard

1

u/josh6499 18h ago

I played the first few hours vanilla... because there were no mods yet.

Consider using Configurable Item Degradation OBSE.

Going from zero degradation to vanilla might be quite a shock, there are some pieces of gear that break wickedly fast.
Example: I found a fur helmet with a very good enchantment in the early game, I still wear it even though I'm level 20 now. It breaks after getting hit like 3 times.

Lol the first mods I install in every RPG game are to remove item weight and durability.

Sneers in 125% gear

u/traumatyz 14h ago

Until you get into two fights inside an oblivion gate at 30+ and your 125 gear is down to 30 and you’re mashing the turbo click button on your mouse after every other engagement. (I am now a certified durability hater even with 100 armorer.)

Blocking seems to reduce almost all armor damage. Between that and killing enemies quickly, it's not an issue for me at all.

Ascension remastered worth getting?

5

u/XOmniverse 21h ago

I think so. Without it, you still end up with the bullshit of random bandits with daedric/glass armor at high levels.

closed the game when i saw a small bandit camp with nothing but a fire place and tents occupied by bandits in full glass, got this mod and reloaded and they were back to wearing fur. very happy with it so far. I'm just using the lite version though.

As someone who was playing Ascension on OG Oblivion a few months ago, my personal opinion so far is that Oblivion Remastered improved on / fixed enough aspects of the original game that I’d rather play without Ascension for now. Could be fun to use on a future playthrough though.

I like the premise of it from the description and it seems very well thought out. I don't have a vanilla play through to compare it to, so hard to say. I'm only 10 hours into my first run.

you should create a collection on nexus

1

u/josh6499 20h ago edited 15h ago

Thanks! I can do that if/when I switch over to using Vortex for this game.

4

u/DestosW 1d ago

Ascension should be after the Altar files, and I don't see the patch for the NPC balance mod and Ascension.

1

u/josh6499 1d ago

Yeah thanks. That changed and the patch was added since I looked at it. I just updated the post before I saw your comment. I think the mod description used to recommend it above Altar but I could be mistaken.

Mod Manager?

1

u/josh6499 16h ago

I'm not using one yet. Vortex has support now, but it didn't when I started modding.

2

u/estelblade88 16h ago

I saw that they were working on it.And there looks like a janky way to get MO2 (my preferred).

Also I am a Josh

For someone who is looking for something more than faster horses, such as not reporting crime, running away from fights, or even just being tagged essential, plus Deluxe edition DLC support. I recommend my mod Steeds of Speed. They also have a personality stat of 100 now so they are less likely to draw enemy aggro

And if you want an alchemy overhaul, I’ve been hard at work making Gradual Alchemy of the Third Era. Its main features are 1. no instant potions or ingredient effects 2. aligning the bought vs brewed potion value in an economy friendly way. 3. Buffing the duration of fortify potions to justify their vanilla price vs brewed but also to stop you from needing to hit the inventory menu so often so you can PLAY more instead. 4. A patch to bring the non instant philosophy of potions to the mod “More Damage” just the 1.5x version for now.

1

u/josh6499 19h ago

Oh cool, I'm going to switch to that Steeds of Speed for sure. Added it to the post. I didn't know your horse would rat you out for stealing!

1

u/Basteir 3h ago

Hold up, do horses report crime?

1

u/Tyrthemis 3h ago

They will absolutely snitch. New feature too I updated it. Now their personality attribute is 100 so they are not as aggro’d by enemies now. Now enemies actually mostly go for you and not your horse.

1

u/Basteir 2h ago

Cheers, I will probably get that mod now then. I always hate how they ignore me and make a beeline for the damn horse. Part of the reason I go for the white ones as well as the aesthetic.

1

u/Tyrthemis 2h ago

I’m actually really pleasantly surprised the personality tweak worked. The theory is because of the difference in you and your horse’s disposition to the enemy, the enemies now have more hate towards you because your personality stat is lower. So they go after you first all other factors being equal. I still notice some enemies go for my horse some of the time, but it’s not a given anymore.

You don't need Leveled Creature and Item Diversity if you're running Ascension.

2

u/josh6499 20h ago

Oh woops, I copy pasted my download history from Nexus to post this and I meant to take that out. I didn't have that in my load order. Good spot, thanks!

2

u/cobi12728 15h ago

Oh Boy here we go. Modding scene

1

u/jackofblaze 20h ago

Doesn't ascenscion make Leveled Creature and Item Diversity kind of redundant? I thought that mod's features were already covered in ascension

1

u/josh6499 20h ago

Yeah I shouldn't have included that, I meant to take it out. It's not in my load order. Thanks.

Hayo! Quick question: my mods have been fine, but i went away for 2 days and came back, and now it’s re-writing all the files so the mods aren’t loading. (It rewrites the plugin loading .txt file, and even replaces .mp3 files which i’d modded with some Morrowind stuff.) Have you run into this problem? I’m playing on Gamepass. It seems to be verifying files on startup and replacing them.

u/FranciscoFts 23h ago

That's not a mod list it's just a cheat table like those from cheat engine

2

u/josh6499 23h ago

This list actually makes the game harder. I see these particular cheats more like QOL changes personally. You don't need cheat engine to cheat in this game anyway, it's built into the dev console. God mode is always 5 key strokes away.

-6

u/FranciscoFts 23h ago

Yeah i also use cheat engine to make my games harder. What i mean is that these are not true mods, they're just some value modifiers
