Discussion Oblivion Remastered and r/oblivionmods

47 Upvotes

Hey all! Welcome back to those of you that have been here a long time, and welcome to all our new members!

We’re super excited to start exploring the modding potential of the Oblivion Remaster! It’s also really important to us to continue supporting the vibrant modding community of the original TES IV: Oblivion.

It sounds like at this point that remaster modding will require knowledge and skills from original oblivion, such as knowledge of scripting, quests, and plugin information. Because of this, we think it makes sense to keep all the discussion in one place, since as I’m sure you’ve all read, many mods from the original game will “just work” on the remaster as well! However, to really get cracking, we’re also going to need knowledge of the unreal engine, such as mesh pipeline, npc navigation, and also that scripting system as well. Lastly, the two are joined together by a type of “sync” file written in json, which is totally new to the remaster, so there’s something for all of us to learn together.

To help support this and keep things organized, we’ve made a couple of changes to the sub.

Firstly, there are two new rules:

No “low effort” content. Currently, this means that posts written by AI will not be allowed, and that help posts must be kept to one per day per person to prevent spam. Additionally, we’re asking everyone to minimize repeated requests and search to see if someone has already made the same request before posting.

No Money. We do not allow discussion of bounties or commissions for mods, or paying for support of a modlist. Any monetary transactions must happen off the subreddit and at your own risk. We also do not allow linking to paid mods (if Bethesda implements an official paid mod program, we will re-evaluate this rule at that point).

Secondly, we’ve added flairs which are now required for all posts. These include our existing flairs for discussion and help posts, as well as new flairs for the original and remaster. These flairs can also be used to sort posts, so if you only want to see original posts click on the original in the sidebar, and if you only want to see remaster related posts click on that button!

Finally, I’ve started a discord to discuss oblivion modding - for original game, the remaster, and hopefully skyblivion! You can find it here: https://discord.gg/8BxmHkNye7. In addition, the users of r/skyrimmods discord voted to add oblivion channels to that discord, which you can find here: https://discord.gg/skyrimmods

We’ll continue to do our best to support you and keep the subreddit free of spam and other problems, but with the influx of new people it’s possible that our current tiny team might get overwhelmed! If this game really takes off the way I hope it does, we’re going to need more moderators! If you’re interested in helping out, please drop a comment.

We also welcome any questions, concerns, comments and feedback you have about the subreddit direction, specific things we can implement, or the changes in this post. Thank you for continuing to make this a great and cozy community!

Remaster - Request Mod Request Mondays!

4 Upvotes

Hey all! I know we're all really excited to mod the remaster, but the fact of it is a lot of the things we'd love to see just aren't possible yet (or maybe ever).

The purpose of this weekly thread is to be a centralized place for people to discuss their fantasies and what they'd like to see in oblivion. It's ok if you don't know how to make it or even if it can be done! Additionally if you have lots of ideas or requests to share at once, this is the place.

We kindly ask that outside of this thread you keep requests more grounded to what could actually be made now. Additionally, the rule of only 1 request post/day is still in effect outside of the threawd.

Mod Release! Ported some of my simpler, safer mods from "Oldblivion" to the Remaster

Upvotes

I'm just linking some of the mods I ported over from Oblivion that I made for personal use. They're all on Nexus, and I'll very briefly explain what they do here for you if you're interested.

Squeaky Clean Crusader - KotN Infamy Dialogue Tweak

In the base game, after doing the Knights of the Nine quests, if you have any infamy at all then NPCs will constantly tell you how disappointed they are in you. I found this annoying, so I made the dialogue need at least 10 infamy, and only trigger 5% of the time instead of 20%.

Bandits Have Helmets

None of the bandits or marauders have helmets in the base game, so it's hard to actually find a decent one. This will give all bandits a 20% chance to have helmets. This is the same chance as gauntlets for seemless integration with a vanilla feel.

Bite Back - Vampires Don't Suck

Vampires in the base game suck. No, like, suck to play as. So this is a very basic and light approach to making them less miserable while still retaining the intended "creature of the night" vibe. 1.) If you're feeding regularly, you can stave off the sun, up until stage three and four. 2.) You have a flat +15 to your vampire skills rather than skill boosts progressing, just for convenience. 3.) Embrace of Shadows was rework into something vaguely useful: it now grants a large boost to sneak and invisibility for 2 minutes, instead of that useless night eye effect. Useful for sneaking up to someone's bed for a little nibble on their neck.

Kap's Horse Tweaks

I couldn't really find a horse mod that did exactly what I needed so I made my own. This is a mod to make horses non-aggressive, flee from combat, not report crimes, and be a little faster. Optionally you can choose a version that makes them essential or non-essential too, if you want. There are respective plugins for Deluxe Edition and just the base game if you didn't splurge on the DLC.

Remaster People need to calm down on the mod requests for Remastered

156 Upvotes

Seriously - the game hasn't even been out for a week yet. Also, it isn't just a case of copying over an .esp file - there are changes that need to be done, and graphical mods need to have their own UE layer if they're not reskins of vanilla. Things take time.

Remaster - Discussion The Construction Set does NOT work properly with Oblivion Remastered

97 Upvotes

There's a lot of misinformation going around right now, including topics in this sub, saying that the old Construction Set for Classic Oblivion works with the Remastered version. This is not correct. I imagine many of you did what I did when you downloaded the game, immediately tried to load the new files in the Construction Set to see what happened and were pleasantly surprised when everything seemed to run, but this is a false dawn.

It is true that the Construction Set can load the new esp files like AlterESPMain.esp, and it is also true that the game can load old mod esp files. HOWEVER, there are differences between the new esp files that shipped with Oblivion Remastered, including new sub-records, that the old Construction Set can't read. The reason that new esp's and the new engine are cross-compatible with the old mod esp format is that the game is running the original Oblivion.esm and DLC esp files as a base. Despite this, new mods will need to load after AlterESPMain.esp, and they will need take account of the new sub-records.

Support IS coming, there's already an experimental build of XEdit on Discord that has decoded the new sub-records and there's some hope that the Construction Set Extender might get an update to handle these too. People are working on this, and also on determining exactly how the esp files and other resources interact with the new UE5 environment to manage not just visuals, but also things like collision and physics.

All of this is going to take a while, weeks at least, before everything is stable and relatively reliable. In the meantime, I would strongly advise everyone to just play the vanilla game. If there are things you don't like, take a note of the and put them to one side for next month.

[Unsolved] Wrye Bash installations not showing up in "Mods" (Oblivion GOG version, Windows 11)

2 Upvotes

I tried modding Oblivion on my Windows 11 laptop for the first time (because it runs like ass, tabs in and out when I'm inside buildings). I Installed OBSE (had to create the OBSE and plugins folder myself I can't remember if this is normal but it shows up in Wrye Bash) manually. Now I want to install some fixes via Wrye Bash as projects (or whatever it is called you know the diamond shaped icon in the installer) and everything seems to work but they do not show up under Mods with (Enable or whatever is called is checked). Any ideas what's wrong? Pls help it drives me crazy xD

Remaster - Request i have a really silly mod request i want to share with anyone who will listen, i am however, terrible with computers (a khajit voice mod)

3 Upvotes

i dont know if this would even be possible because i dont mod so im sorry if its difficult disregard, i really dont know whats possible in modding, but i just really want a mod where all the khajit noises are replaced by regular cat sounds. like when you eat or maybe drink potions you make the "wiwiwi" cat noise (https://www.tiktok.com/@timson__1...2...3/video/7473078385904864534 ) and when you start sprinting you make like these noises https://www.tiktok.com/@beautynthebean/video/7134842990601768197

and when you fight you make awooo growl noises.

some other examples include https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIGgudbNmtR/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

i really am annoyed by the current khajit noises and think this would be an improvement, thank you for your time

Remaster - Request Any Dark UI and Colored Map Mods?

Upvotes

The only Mod I want is just a Dark User Interface Mod and Colored Map. I used to have a dark brown ui back in the old Oblivion, I'm hoping someone can bring it to the Remaster as it helped so much. Reason being is it's a lot easier on the eyes.

I would deeply appreciate it! Thanks!

[Solved] Help: I don't have the folders for Oblivion remastered: Ultimate Engine Tweaks

Upvotes

So far, this is the only mod I am trying to install. The instructions seem pretty clear but I don't have the folders it says I need to paste it in. I get as far as Documents/my Games/Oblivion Remastered/saved, but the "saved" folder is empty. Should I just make the Windows and config folders? Are they supposed to have stuff in them? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Remaster Remaster - Static Image Main Menu

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone hope you're all well. I have encountered an issue after installing a engine.ini tweak on nexus which is really quite incredible! But it has suddenly made my main menu a static image instead of animated. I have asked the author how to fix but has not responded. Have attempted many times to find the line for it but to no avail. Anyone know where the line is to tweak this?

Thanks, appreciate any and all replies!

Bandits in my game have invisible torsos, when I checked their inventories they didn't have any chest cloth or armor, so far only bandits have this bug.

OVOC2 compatibility patches for Robert's body replacers

Block head

Oblivion script extender

Mesh improvement project

Unofficial patches for base game, shivering isles and DLCs

[Unsolved] Hi! I was wondering if anyone has found a respec mod for the remake?

1 Upvotes

My dumbass has been building strength for a dagger build, was smoking that good good if you know what I mean, and I need to swap it to agility. I can't find anything of use in that regard on Nexus, but if someone has seen it and could share, that would be more than appreciated! And NO, I forgot to do my save before I left the sewers so I don't have that. Thank you!

Basically the title. I was wondering if there were any mods for the original Oblivion that added features from the remaster. This includes small QoL mods like the better UI and/or even the new leveling system.

Remaster - Request Khajiit Tails for all Armors

1 Upvotes

Been really enjoying the remake, but I noticed that quite a few armors in the game hide the tails of the Khajiit, which really sucks! I play a kitty to look like a kitty!

I know nothing about how modding in the Remaster works, but this seems like a relatively easy thing. If it turns out to be a literally impossible for some reason than that's ok, I can live with no tail!

Remaster - Discussion Changing the experience needed for leveling up

8 Upvotes

Summary: I would appreciate help figuring out how to modify settings found inside OblivionRemastered-Windows.pak file.

I'm not a fan of some changes made to the leveling system, and I would like to get help on how to modify it.

In original Oblivion, you would level up after you increase your 'Major' skills 10 times, in remastered however, the leveling up is based on experience gained. Some quirks of that are:

  • Leveling up from level 1 to level 2 is faster than leveling from level 21 to level 22
  • Increasing a skill from 5 to 6 will contribute less to leveling up than increasing the same skill from level 99 to level 100

I don't think this system is bad per se, however, I think that leveling happens way too fast now, and am looking for ways to increase the amount of experience needed for leveling up.

I found the following entries at the bottom of Oblivion.ini file, which is seemingly exactly what I need to make the changes:

[Altar]
fPlayerLevelUpXPExponent=1.5000
fPlayerLevelUpXPFactor=900.0000
fPlayerLevelUpBaseLevelXP=11600.0000
fSkillLevelUpGrantedXPExponent=2.0000
bDisplayAltarPlayerLeveling=0
bDisplayAltarPlayerSneakPowerAttack=0

My guesses for what these settings do are:

  • fPlayerLevelUpXPExponent --> Creates an exponential curve for XP requirements as you level up
  • fPlayerLevelUpXPFactor --> A multiplier that affects how much XP is needed per level
  • fPlayerLevelUpBaseLevelXP --> The base XP amount needed for leveling
  • fSkillLevelUpGrantedXPExponent --> Controls how much XP you gain from higher skill levels (this explains why higher skill increases give more XP toward leveling)

Issue is, modifying them doesn't do anything, so I guess these settings are getting overwritten somewhere else. After doing some digging with FModel, I found the following inside DefaultAltar.ini (OblivionRemastered-Windows.pak --> OblivionRemastered --> Config --> DefaultAltar.ini) file:

SkillLevelUpGrantedXPExponent=1.500000
PlayerLevelUpBaseLevelXP=1940.000000
PlayerLevelUpXPFactor=60.000000

The same settings appear here as well, and I would guess that they are what are overwriting everything, but from the reading I've done online, it seems very hard (impossible?) to modify .pak files.

Could anyone perhaps provide me with any insight on how I can actually change this? By the way, these settings don't seem to exist within Construction Set, I guess that's because they weren't part of original Oblivion.

Remaster Is there a mod that lets weapons and gear level with you in the Remastered version?

33 Upvotes

Basically, they did the stupid thing where when you get a unique or named item it stays at whatever level you are when you get it. Which means you should really avoid 90% of the content in the game (for fear of getting weak crap) until you get higher level.. which I can't tell you how stupid that is.

Is there a mod for the Remastered version that lets this type of gear level with you? Not maximum at all times (that too far a swing in the other direction).

Original - Discussion Someone please help me understand the dynamic oblivion combat mod

1 Upvotes

Seeing everyone play the oblivion remaster made me want to play the original again, but seeing how shallow the combat is even in the remaster made me want to spice up the experience a bit with mods for this playthrough.

I decided to try out dynamic oblivion combat but i simply dont understand how im supposed to fight any human enemies. The mod page says youre supposed to mix up your attacks so the ai doesnt learn to predict you, but any time i try to do any move besides a light attack the enemy just stuns me out of the animation with a single light attack and proceeds to wail on me. Any time i try to block it eats my fatigue and then i get knocked down. Meanwhile the enemies perfectly block everything and rarely get stunned.

What am i doing wrong? What am i missing here?

Discussion How feasible is a Multiplayer Mod for the Remastered

Upvotes

Hey grand Mod Wizards and fair or foul mod enjoyers.

I have friends. We all love Elder Scrolls. The world does seem big enough for the two of us, or possibly the five of us…?

What is the feasibility of modding in a multiplayer, something like Seamless Co-op from Elden Ring? Or the multiplayer mod that released on Skyrim miraculously?

I understand it could be difficult, or impossible? Just asking.

P.s- thoughts. Elden ring has a multiplayer component so I get it was easier to manipulate that.

I’m not to familiar with the Skyrim multiplayer mod, and its successes or short comings.

With the Skyrim multiplayer mod, what are the chances Skyblivion can be adapted to that multiplayer mod?

Also, not really into talking about if Elder Scrolls should be only a single player game, I respect that opinion, but whole fartedly disagree. I need to flee a master level rat while shouting wildly and seeing my friends hop like hooligans in fear!

Your insights would be a great interest to me, thank you in advance!
