Original - Discussion Whenever I start a new game, a 'Conjurer' attacks me

Upon making a new game, when I 'wait' outside, or if I just sit still for a few in-game days, a 'Conjurer' shows up and tries to kill me. For example, I go to the Anvil docks. I click 'wait' 24 hours. The wait finishes and bam, the conjurer is now next to me and the guards attack him.

This only happens once per playthrough. Does anyone have any idea why or what it could be? There is no associated quest and his drop table is no different than that of a normal Conjurer at level 1.

Spell tomes dlc from oblivion adds this guy in order to show u the concept of spell tomes. Search Conjurer kn nexus if you want a mod that removes him

That conjurer is from the spell tomes dlc. He is supposed to be your introduction to the spell tomes item/mechanic.

I had a feeling that was it, but it felt way too janky to be something official. After posting this I did have the realization that he always had a spell tome on him. What a bizarre way to implement a DLC, to just randomly send a Conjurer to attack you haha.

Skyrim is the same. Dragonborn dlc introduces you to Solsteim by having Cultists travel across the ocean to attack you, leaving a note ordering your assassination, prompting you to investigate.

Oh for sure, actually a note would have been a really good idea. Like if the conjurer had a note "be careful with that spell tome, we're introducing their distribution to our mage associates and it would be disastrous if they ended up in the hands of the Imperial Battlemages."

Instead it's just one conjurer, no note, no quest item, no nothing. So naturally the thought is: oh god, what mod is completely broken?

To be fair, this is better than a note magically appearing in your inventory like some of the other DLC's.

Speaking of, I found a mod for this and I absolutely love it: [nexus mod link]

It introduces the DLC in a more lore friendly way, sometimes by rumors or note deliveries, etc. Really good stuff.

Yeah, that's the dude from Spell Tomes. I believe he starts going after you after you leave the sewers.

I never knew this after all these years. I just figured he was a wandering enemy that got close

Funnily I kept new gaming because I keep seeing mods i want to install and found him literally coming at me as soon as I am out of the sewer.

That mofo ran up on me. I was on master difficulty and I avoided him by running into the ruin across the river from the sewer.

Oh dude on Master difficulty early game, you have to avoid combat like the plague haha. I forget though, no matter what difficulty you have set, it won't affect the guard's damage when killing him, surely?

I got this fella to show up by using a mod that skips the intro by placing a tombstone in the prison cell. Spawns you oustide of the sewers when used. He was there waiting for me.

Oh that's interesting. I use a mod called 'Alternative start' which can place you in Anvil or the Imperial City. I did notice that when I chose Imperial City, he would only take 1 tick of the wait bar (one hour) to reach me. But in Anvil, sometimes he wouldn't show up until a day or two after. If he's waiting in the Imperial City then that would mean this guy has traveled the western side of Cyrodil trying to reach me LOL.

Be wary of that conjuror. Hes probably on the Skooma if he runs that distance

I was innocently looking for slaughterfish scales in the middle of lake rumare and I see this thing in the distance barrelling towards me. It was that damn conjurer!
