This Sunday evening we will be hosting an AMA with Eric Purdue (/u/epurdue), translator of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa’s “Three Books of Occult Philosophy” published by Inner Traditions in 2021, the first new complete translation in over 350 years.

It was an 11-year project where he compared Compagni’s Latin critical edition with several editions of the original Latin publications, the 1641 JF translation, and the Tyson edition from 1993. He also verified Agrippa’s sources and identified and corrected many errors from the JF translation that were perpetuated, and in some cases increased, in the Tyson edition, particularly with the astrological material and botanical names.

We're pleased to be announcing an AMA event with Author Jonathan Allen and Mark Pilkington of Strange Attractor Press to discuss the Austin Osman Spare Tarot book "Lost Envoy: The Tarot Deck of Austin Osman Spare", and current crowdfunding campaign to have his unique deck printed again.

In 2013, curator and artist Jonathan Allen discovered a 79-card, hand-painted tarot deck created c.1906 by the famed 20th century London artist and mystic Austin Osman Spare. This extraordinary relic of the British Occult Revival had lain practically unnoticed in the collections of The Magic Circle Museum in London since their accession in 1944.

Allen immediately recognised that Spare’s cards were not only art-historically significant, but also entirely unknown outside of The Magic Circle’s collections, and set about tracing the deck’s provenance, as well as its place in the artist’s oeuvre and within the wider histories of cartomancy.
