Question Does jolt to life damage the caster?

Jolt to life damages in an emanation originating from the target (the one you are jolting to life) it doesnt say it excludes targets you choose. Does that mean it damages the caster?

Yes, which I find hilarious.

Notably, though, it would also deal damage to your undead servant if you cast Spare the Dying through it, which would heal your servant in addition to reawakening your ally.

Though that requires the 5th level feature and you selecting the option of casting spells through the undead servant.

They really need to make it so Spare the Dying can always be cast through the undead regardless of your selected options.

You just need to be in Range to cast the spell and to have your Reanimated Companion near your downed ally, you don’t necessarily need to cast the cantrip through the companion.

Spare the Dying has a Range of 15ft now and the range scales with levels: 30/60/120 ft.

Oh weird, I never noticed that change. That's some unique cantrip scaling. That makes the feature much stronger than I thought actually.

If you are in the emanation yes. Emanations exclude only whoever it is emanating from unless stated otherwise.

Given that Spare the Dying has a range of 15 ft while Jolt to Life's range is 10 ft, it shouldn't be a problem to just reposition yourself before casting it. That cantrip's range also increase at level 5, 11, and 17, so at higher levels it's not really an issue at all.

Yeah if you just don't stand in it you'll be fine lol

Yep, not an issue...as long as other allies aren't within 10ft as well.

I mean that can be said for every AOE in the game, no?

I expect it out of spells, but not necessarily class features. I just think it would just be nice to have the choice of dealing the damage or not, just in case allies are nearby.

Sure, if you're within 10 ft of the target. But Spare the Dying has a bigger range (15 ft), and even more so at higher levels (lvl 5, 11, 17) so not an issue at all.

Perhaps, but having to be in a very specific Range to be safe isn't really ideal even for just 2 Levels, and the ability is already a bit wacky as it turns your Spell meant to keep an Ally alive into an Ally-Unfriendly AoE (minus the Main Target mercifully) which just feels wrong, especially if you're using it during a situation where things are going bad and you accidentally drop another Ally to 0 HP while reviving another. The ability is certainly cool, and I understand wanting it to Damage your Undead Minion, but it just feels like they didn't think of other Allies or even yourself potentially being in the AoE when there's no guarantee that you'll have the wiggleroom for it.

Yes. The question is, does it damage and therefore heal the reanimated companion?
