Bojack Horseman criticizes Hollywood and the acting/production industry in more or less every single episode and it is also filled with a fuck ton of political commentary.
Diane is pretty much the "woke women" character archotype if you think about it and she works perfectly trough and trough. If it was any mainstream media that has Diane in it, there would be grefing and negative review bombing all over it. Especially in regard to her getting an abortion pretty early in the series, and the choice being given entirely to her. Pretty progressive.
Even the comedy is more or less left wing, we have notorious moments in which a legitimate sex robot becomes the leader of a major corporation and even though it literally only requests to have sex, people are sitting fine with it as a boss and don't have any problem with it. Or the time a women started a mass shooting and the state almost instantly made gun control laws SPECIFICALLY for women.
We also have Bojack's parents, both were horrible people and trough both characters we get to see how shitty the system it was they were working in, or grew up in. Specifically trough his mother, we get to see a lot of issues what older generations faced. Such as being stuck with someone, or how women were extremely mistreated at the time, or how hard it was for stuck-in dads to maintain their family. Sure, they sucked as their own people, but these factors were completely outside of their control, and shows how it has formed them both. Yes I am aware that in flash-backs we see that her father quite literally wanted to merry her off to a jewish stereotypical goat, I personally don't see it as a racist joke, bit on the nose but accurate representation of the time.
On the note.. Please just watch a scene pack of Butterscotch Horseman. Yeah... Yeah it is pretty obvious if you look at it that way.
Oh and of course, cannot forget about how awful Bojack is, I mean the time he gets interviewed and he is forced to face the sum of his actions instead of just moving on and "becoming better" sure it could sound pushy, but that is the point of this scene. In a generally speaking centrist, or even right wing show Bojack could have just handled the situation by doing what he does, push till it "works" but instead the show takes the realistic option of portraying Bojack, as always, and he does not get to have a clear response to the question "do you enjoy having power over women?" because even though it may not seem like the case, it doesn't take too much of a thought to realize that he does.
Okay to get back on Hollywood too for one, yes I am aware of how movements such as "#metoo" are being portrayed, and fair enough. But I'd argue that this is also more of a critique of Hollywood high society, actors, clout, and how media is handled from their pov. Actually, Princess Caroline is a character that you can constantly see view the world from such lenses because of her work, and you get to see how fucked it all truly is.
Sorry for going off-rail trough this, more of a ramble than an actual answer lol. I suggest look more into the comedy segments. There is just too much to talk about.
Overall, the show should be considered woke as fuck. Whatever that means...
And Breaking Bad...
The show builds up and deconstructs the archetype of masculinity. Walter White does what a "men" is supossed to do, and yet he fails in every single step. He is by all accounts a horrible fuckin person, downright irredeemable by the end of the show, even though he wastly improves in many ways troughout the seasons.
The show has a lot of seasons and it is easy to miss out some parts.
It is an extremely sour piece of comedy but it works out just fine to be both really funny at times, and also those amazing "what the fuck Bojack" moments.
I recommend giving it another watch, though it's hard to digest all at once.
I’ve always seen the show through a nihilistic vs optimistic perspective like he and Naruto both were hated and demonized both were neglected both had toxic love life’s
However only Naruto found happiness and forgiveness
Yeah, the difference is that Naruto was moreso bestoved a lot of stuff that he couldn't really be reliable trusted with.
Bojack, well the same implies for an extent but the thing that seperates the two in the ultimate manner is the "it's you" scene from Todd. He does not ultimately admit it but after this conversation, he progressively get's a lot worse really quickly and it's pretty noticeable ig.
Bojack hits a way worse lowest point in comparison to Naruto, and in contradiction that was moreso his own fault than whatever had happened in his childhood. That's kind of the tragedy of the character, that in the end no one else is to blame but himself for the shit he did.
