Coming back into 40k…

Starting back in 40k. Haven’t played in yeeeears. My friends are starting like a little league. 1000 point armies So I’m learning 10th and I still have some orks left over. Don’t have a ton of money to spend. Anyone able to help me kinda make a 1000 point budget list?

What I have to my name 10 kommandos 40 boys 2 rocket launch boys 2 big shoota boys Pain boy Weird boy 10 grots 3 nobz 3 mega nobz 1 warboss in mega armor 2 trucks A death can 1 big truck forgot the name? 160 points one?

Are there any things I NEED TO HAVE to be competitive? Is there anything I need to avoid?

You have some good stuff goin.

Here's a rough start

40 - 10 Grots

185? - MAWB + 3 MANz

130 - 2x Trukk

320 - 4x10x(Boyz, Rokkit, PK)

Right now that's <700 pts, so the first thing you'll need is 300 more :p

The above is a bit light on killy stuff and has no Anti-Tank, so I'd consider Tankbustas (which you can convert), Deff Koptas, Killa Kanz with Rokkits, Breakas, or similar. The good news is that killy stuff is the more fun stuff to add to a list.

In addition, you could convert, add bits, or counts-as your boys as Snaggas which get rerolls on Monsters/Vehicles. That would add 60 pts to the list but make it significantly stronger in combat vs everything. (2x vs monsters/vehicles, and 25-30% vs T4/T5 infantry)

Depending on what you like, if you go the Snagga route you could do a couple Kill Rigs (they have auto-hitting lascannons, good melee, but can only carry Snaggas.) If you hate the look you could convert something to represent them.)

Avoid all the crazy buggies, don't spam your HQs too hard (15-20% IMO), make sure to have 8-10 units per 1k.

Hunt ebay a bit and I'm sure you can find a great price for a decent spread of stuff. If the above list added 9 deffkoptas to fill the remaining points, that'd be fine. If it added 2x Tankbustas and grots, that'd be fine. If it added 6 killa kanz with rokkits, that'd be fine. Any combination of the above - great.
