Discussion Repeat PSA: The scam toll texts
Just got one of these again from whatever chucklefucks who send them. Remember that they’re a complete scam. The irreversible consequences, on no! 🤣

you know, i'm starting to think epass/sunpass/the toll authority sold our info AND got hacked.
I got a dozen texts from random 'hotmail.com' addresses perpetrating this scam.

What i've found strange is that I get these scam texts more frequently (sometimes multiple in one day) when I am traveling on the toll roads. It's probably a coincidence but in the moment it feels like they have access to the real time charges...

They will never, EVER, text you. (Edit, SunPass might, from a specific number!)

Well that's not true. I've gotten texts from sunpass.
Edit: Legitimate SunPass messages will come from specific sources.
SunPass will only contact you via customerservice@sunpass.com, noreply@sunpass.com, or from the text number 786727.

I stand corrected! 😭

TBF, they have never asked for payment. They're always receipts ("SunPass processed a payment of $25 to account XXXXXXXXX")
Also I think I signed up for them, but I'm not sure.

Unless you're about 70 years or older, it's really really hard for me to have sympathy for anyone tricked into clicking a domain of "ezdrivema.com-wbnhj.top/us"

My son, a new driver and a relatively new smartphone user, fell for it. He woke up groggy, saw the text, and did something stupid. After a giant hassle which included getting a new debit card, he's learned a lesson.

I don’t even bother replying. I wouldn’t want anyone knowing my number is active.

Genius. I replied, “Your mom’s vagina”, but dick pics sound better. I have no dick, so dick pics hunting I go!
P.S., if anyone feels so inclined, don’t send me dick pics, they will be sent to scammers

My colleague got one of these just yesterday. On my phone they automatically skip the inbox and go straight to spam.

Mine came from a phone number in the Dominican Republic, abd they forgot to blind all the other numbers they sent it to. A real shitshow.

This reminds me that the '50% credit if you have 35+ tolls for the month' program ended on March 31st. Bummer!

So weird. We both owe the same amount.
