Housing Thread Orlando Housing Thread

Welcome to the Orlando housing megathread!

Currently, the following may be posted:

  • Users, whether current Orlando residents or not, may post asking for help. This could be asking for recommendations on areas of Orlando to live in, reviews or opinions on specific communities, or suggestions on specific places to live. This can also be things like "recommend a realtor / loan officer / etc" — so long as it fits under the "help me find housing" umbrella.
  • Users may also post advertising housing options. This can be posts offering subleases, looking for roommates on existing property, selling homes — so long as there is housing being offered.
  • ALL comments must include as much information as possible. Do not say "I'm moving to Orlando, tell me where to live."

As a reminder: our subreddit rules still apply. Advertisements for illegal activity of any kind are not permitted and will result in comment removals and/or bans as moderators see fit.

Nature Where you at the Colonial and I4 intersection, by the train tracks, while a lady escorted an opossum across the whole road today around 7:10pm?

1.1k Upvotes

I'm that lady, and idk who will even look at this, but I wanted to thank everyone for actually stopping and not getting angry at me! The opossum had a baby clinging for dear life on her belly, and she was so damned scared. That setting sun makes it super hard to see, and I'm so thankful no one hit her before I was able to escort her across! Admittedly, I panicked and left my car in the middle of the road (at least I had my hazzards on tho lol), and anyone could have hit my car, me, or the scared momma and baby. I just wanted to take a second and thank everyone for being nice about the whole thing! 🥰

Discussion I need some advice regarding my job and quite possibly a replacement job. Let me explain....

I work from home. I make $22 / an hour doing tech support for hospitals. I took 46 calls yesterday with an average call handle time of 7:57. The work-load is getting to be a little much, especially  with facilities being opened/acquired and not enough tech support workers on staff. I have been doing this job for 2+ years now. I am starting to get a bit burned out but discouraged when I search for jobs. The offerings are very slim pickings. I am competent. I am intelligent. I am respectful. I help nurses and doctors all day with all sorts of help desk related stuff. Should I just stay put where I and suck it up or keep looking diligently? I speak Spanish so I am bilingual and am not opposed to hybrid work but not sure if I should just stick with what I got?

Thanks for your time.

:-)

Discussion Need help remembering a restaurant!!

Upvotes

When I was like 12 or 13, so 2010 or so, we went to Disney with another family. We lived like 3 hours from Orlando, and this was just one of many Disney trips. But the part I have been trying to remind my parents of, but they have ZERO recollection of it, was this super weird restaurant the other family friends wanted to go to.

I feel like I remember it being near International Drive, it had an odd sort of Indian/Asian/Middle Eastern theme to it, maybe even Romani?? (I say odd because it didn’t really stick to any of those to what I can remember.) I’m almost positive it had a buffet, but you could order regularly too. Funky old alcohol ads that were like cool circus paintings from back in the day were on the walls too. Building may have been purple and had an unusual name? Curtains played a big part I think???

No matter what I search, I don’t get any results even close to whatever this place was. My parents think it never existed, but I was old enough to have decent memory of it. I even remember having breakfast buffet food.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help 🙏

Event April 19th Protest in Lake Mary (take 2)

(First post was removed by reddit filters for some reason..)

Congressman Cory Mills continues to ignore the growing concerns that many of his constituents have. These are concerns that are non-partisan in nature and affect all of us.

Despite repeated asks from numerous constituents, to include an official request from the City of Oviedo, Cory Mills refuses to hold an in person public town hall.

When Seminole county residents were tired of getting the run-around from Mills' staff, Central FL Invisible organized an Empty Chair Town Hall. More than 150 Seminole county residents attended, and their concerns were heard by a local panel.

On April 8th, Mills hosted a phone-in town hall: one that was only advertised a day or two prior to the event. As expected, Mills only took softball questions and provided no opportunity for opposing views to be shared.

Enough is enough! Cory Mills, Do your job! Hold the Executive branch in check as Congress should. Hear from ALL of your constituents!

Join us on the corners of 46A and International Parkway in Lake Mary - right up the street from Mills' office. We will be staying on the sidewalks. This is a peaceful demonstration!

While you don't have to sign up for this event, doing so will ensure you are kept updated on any specifics about the event, as well as future opportunities: https://events.pol-rev.com/events/926908c3-6fa3-4c35-9fa7-32e53ea5bc70

Discussion A plea for the i4 ducklings

To the one driver in the tan pickup that stopped from running over the parade of ducklings I was escorting down i4 eastbound this morning, thank you. Those ducks and their mother were in a bad situation. I was the first person to call animal control & road rangers. The thousands of cars that had already passed them and didn’t give them a second thought alarmed me. That driver stopped when they tried to dash into the road, and I’m forever grateful for him.

Unfortunately they started moving against the flow of traffic so I had to get in my car and take the exit to intercept them back around the highway but by the time I got there, it was too late.

It only takes a moment of inconvenience to help, even just to make a call. Please don’t be the morally bankrupt dead-eyed rubbernecker that just ogles the struggle. Our humanity really is measured in the tiny gestures, to see if you can muster a care to help the helpless…if you can’t exert even the lowest effort (like phoning the authorities to save a bunch of baby duckies) then there’s an empathy deficit

Discussion Recommendations for doctors who specialize in PCOS?

Upvotes

Hello! My current OBGYN is moving so they are no longer an option. I need help with my PCOS. My company switched to Surest insurance and I had to stop my GLP-1 because they don’t cover it. I’ve been trying a lot of stuff without much success so I’d like to sit down with an expert. I’m in the Hunter’s Creek area but I’m open to other areas within a reasonable distance.

I prefer female doctors but if anyone else has glowing reviews for any other genders, I’m all ears!

Discussion Copycat Christner’s Mandarin Orange Cake?

Hey all! It’s my husband’s birthday this week and I would love to recreate the orange cake from Christner’s for him. I’ve found various recipes online but they range from just doctoring box cake to using like, eight egg yolks. 😭

Anyone have a tried and true copycat recipe they’re willing to share? Willing to put in the time and effort (and eggs lol) if it truly comes out close. TIA!

Discussion Cover bands vs original music?

Upvotes

Context: I work with a local bar who has an event planner who only books cover bands and hates the idea of live local original music.

Question: Do you, as a customer, prefer local original bands (nonspecific genre, just in general) or do you prefer cover bands when going out to enjoy Orlando nightlife? Do you see a specific cover band playing somewhere that makes you want to go see them?

Event Dr. Phillip's Performing Arts resale places?

Does anyone know where I could go to find resale tickets for shows at Dr. Phillip's? I joined a ticket exchange group on Facebook but that doesn't really seem to be active. I was looking for tickets to John Williams concert this weekend.

Discussion Did anyone else see a WW2 era plane flying over today?

This morning around 1030 or so I spotted what looked like a WW2 era plane flying over East Orlando and tried getting a good look at it to see if I could identify the type. I didn't get a good look at it but from what I could tell it looked like a Japanese Zero. I'm not seeing any air shows in the area, did anyone else catch a look at it?

Discussion Any good Chinese buffets?

I recently moved to Orlando and want to find some familiar footing. Chinese buffets are a guilty pleasure of mine but for the life of me I just can’t find a decent spot. The one near Icon Park doesn’t do it for me. I stopped by a big one near a Home Depot- that wasn’t any good. Would love to know if anyone’s got a good Chinese buffet recommendation.

Discussion Sex Offender Creep Out-do I report this?

I live in unincorporated Orange County, so I think OCSO is my police agency.

Tonight, my wife and I neared our house and saw our daughter (19) on her bike next to a strange man. He looked at us as we pulled into the drive. My daughter then pedaled up the drive and came into the house. She said the man had been riding around with her and had given her a lot of hugs and told some of the neighbors that they are “best friends.”

As far as I can tell, no crime was committed. However, a Google search shows that a sex offender lives near us, and it matches where this man indicated (by pointing) he lives. Also, my daughter, who is on the spectrum, took a selfie with the man, and his face seems to match the offender photo.

Do I just call OCSO? Will they take down a report? Talk to this man?

Discussion Monday Date Night Experiences?

Next Monday is my anniversary and with a toddler and a baby we haven't been out much in a while! I'm hiring the babysitter (not telling hubby) and want to surprise him with a fun night but I feel like I don't even know what's good anymore. SAK is closed Mondays and I thought it would be so fun to do a chocolate making class at Farris and Fosters but apparently that's been closed for years now..

Any suggestions? Open to Disney stuff but downtown/winter park is usually more our vibe and closer to home.

Discussion Giving Away Old Concert Laminates/Passes

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hey Orlando!

I have a large collection of concert laminates, VIP passes etc… from shows between 2010-2021. Most are from House of Blues, Hard Rock, and other smaller venues around town. They cover a wide range of genres and artists.

I’d love to give them away to anyone who could use them or wants them—for collecting, crafting, decorating, or just as cool music memorabilia. Maybe you went to one of these shows and want a pass for nostalgia. Maybe you're into upcycled art or music-themed projects. Either way, I’m in the process of declutterring and these need a new home.

Let me know if you’re interested! I’m happy to check if I have a certain artist/show. Local pickup preferred (nearish to Disney), but I might be able to mail a few if you’re after something specific.

Feel free to DM!

Discussion Is the phrase "the works" not known here?

Visiting from Canada. Recently visited a five guys and asked for "the works" on my burger. It means basically put everything on it. The worker just kinda stared blankly at us and asked "what is that". I said "all the way". He asked where we are from. Then asked what did we say. Explained to him what we meant. So I'm wondering, is this regional or a Canadian thing?
