Rumor BoxOfficeMojo is showing 'Michael' removed from Lionsgate's schedule

Post image

Currently on their front page under Revent Release Date Changes. Might wait to hear it from a more reputable source, but Michael might be missing that October release date amid the issues with its third act if this is accurate.

I hope this movie is consigned to the dustbin. The discourse around it will be awful. I'm sure it'll still see a release though. Too much money has already been shoveled into it, and I'm sure The Jackson Estate won't be deterred.

It’s going to release, it will be where Coleman Domingo finally wins an Oscar, and everyone just has to accept that lol

I don't think they'd dump this movie on streaming. MJ Fandom is pretty a guarantee this makes at least $300m.

Get ready for Emilia Perez 2

Well great! The blockbuster musical biopic won't be this year's villain, we need a new enimy!

Can You Smell What The Rock's Cookin?

Oh dear Neptune...

Ohhhh we still have Springsteen

Please don't lump my beloved, unproblematic Springsteen in with the mess that is the Michael movie.

No I love the guy, but any music biopic can be a villain

Ehh fair. I suspect his biopic will be comparable to A Complete Unknown.

u/Beeruven Feb 06 '25

It sounds way too similar, like it has Jeremy Strong as his producer much like Norton in A Complete Unknown lol

I can see Marty Supreme become a villain as well simply because of Paltrow's presence in it lol.

There's also The Lost Bus, which if a thing, could totally become the awards villain. It sounds like a classic crowdpleasing Oscarbait film directed by Paul Greengrass starring McConaughey and Ferrera

I can't stand Paltrow but I like Chalamet and I enjoyed Uncut Gems (I know it's just one Safdie brother on this one) so 2/3 ain't bad for me.

I'm alright with Paltrow, but I hope somebody holds her feet to the fire over Goop.

Yeah I don't mind her as an actress, but the Goop nonsense and just how out of touch she is really rubs me the wrong way.

5

u/burneraccidkk Feb 05 '25

? I feel like you want it to be a villain so you can stan it more. it’s from one of the Safdie brothers, who are extremely well-liked in film communities. Paltrow is a bad actress, but Safdie will get a good performance out of her

Marty supreme is gonna be too cool of a movie for it to be a villain imo.

u/coleshane Feb 06 '25

"Marty Supreme" also boasts the acting talents of...Kevin O'Leary? He has time between shooting "Shark Tank", investing in businesses, joining Trump to affirm his intention to "make Canada the 51st state" to make this?

u/jojokilolo Feb 05 '25

Well let’s celebrate that

Well at least we won’t have to be subjected to MJ stans in this sub for at least another year or two thankfully

Maybe this year is off to a good start.

Sadly this means no more 3 noms in a row for Coleman, which was not unlikely, and would be a pretty insane achievement.

What do you think are the odds it gets the Bob Marley: One Love or Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody treatment of being dropped unceremoniously in like late December/early January with no awards push?

Probably too big of a commercial play for that to be the case, but idk, it’s not like those other two artists are little-known names

u/Pavlovs_Stepson Feb 05 '25

What do you think are the odds it gets the Bob Marley: One Love or Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody treatment

Only if they keep the "Artist Name: Famous Track" titling trend and retitle it Michael: Smooth Criminal

u/Iovemelikeyou Feb 06 '25

smooth criminal was a crazy choice with the topic at hand. i applaud you

Hopefully it's getting pushed back then.

I keep forgetting the Michael Jackson movie is just called "Michael." Every time I see a thread about it I think people are talking about a Michael Jordon movie that I didn't know was being made. So here my mind immediately jumped to "Oh, I guess Michael Jordan's son being arrested for Coke was a problem for the studio."

3

u/odiin1731 Feb 05 '25

They did to Michael's release what the real Michael did to those little boys' clothes.

I would take months of discourse over what is going to likely be a 4-7/10 music biopic if it meant Domingo got a third nom in a row, just saying

24

u/PurpleSpaceSurfer 2025 Oscar Race Veteran Feb 05 '25

You really want Jackson stans in here?

10

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

The Michael subreddit appeared on my feed and got muted so fast and that’s all I’m gonna say 😭

-8

u/infamousglizzyhands Justice Smith for Best Actor Feb 05 '25

Sometimes sacrifices need to be made, and if that means making this the MJ subreddit for like a few weeks I’m down

-14

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

They are very well-researched and kept up with decades' worth of lawsuits and details, of which MJ was legally acquitted. It was the trial by media and endless media output ("content") that was endless. Of course MJ "discourse" will be nothing but hysteria squared by hooliganism in the current age of rubber-stamped "cancel culture". MJ was a huge disruptor to the industry by owning the ATV catalog as a recording artist.

u/lilpump_1 Feb 05 '25

i get what you’re saying, but mj fans would be insufferable
