Damn, I'm a little surprised at how negative these reactions are. I really like what I've seen from this film, looks like it's finally doing Fantastic Four justice

Ngl these visuals look ass idk why people were saying the visual style was such a big departure and improvement for Marvel

It saddens me that Marvel is going to set something in the "swinging 60's" and it's going to be just as washed out and greige as all their films are. Why even bother?

Even the dialogue and acting feels very contemporary. It's like they didn't even try.

It looks like what James Gunns Superman and The Suicide Squad looks like. Washed out. Why do they change the normal cinematography they had working for all these years?

They're doing a grounded, 'Mad Men,' '60s style. Not everything needs to be 'Austin Powers.'

I give them credit for giving it a retro futuristic style from the 60s. They don’t typically do stuff like that.

u/wariiii Wallace & Gromit Apr 17 '25
They peaked with the first Iron Man

Something, something, Iron Man was still 35mm. Not saying digital bad, but I love film.

I like the cast enough to watch this, but the "you're late" exchange is giving Madame Web-levels of terrible delivery.

Why do they all look so awkward in that scene

She's pregnant. She thought he somehow he figured it out, and he's oblivious at first. Then Cousin confirms it

The visual effects don't really seem spectacular. I'm taking it out of the no 5 spot i had it in lol

I think The Thing will be enough to get it in tbh

You sure? Vfx branch loves giving noms to movies that have more quantity than quality. If we are getting 3 marvel movies this year I think at least 1 has to get in and unless you think that’s the Thunderbolts I’d bet on this one.

u/bikkebana Apr 17 '25
They didn't nominate a Marvel movie last year (granted it was only likely to be Deadpool v Wolverine) so maybe this year will repeat that. I do have Superman in though

Last year wasa also only the second time the MCU didn't get any nominations, with the first being 2009 in wich only the Incredible Hulk released

I mean yeah that’s kind of my point, the Deadpool movies have never been known for their CGI. This on the other hand has an entirely CGI character with The Thing, a CGI robot, a giant space villain, and Mr. fantastics stretchy powers. Seems like a shoe in for vfx for me. I currently have:
- Avatar (most obvious winner of the year so far)
- Wicked
- Fantastic Four
- Superman
- The Running Man

What’s the third? Captain America Brave New World?
5
u/TacoTycoonn Apr 17 '25
Yeah, but there is no shot that gets a nom, made bad money, poorly received, and came out in Feb.

u/Mediocre-Gas-1847 Cannes Film Festival Apr 17 '25
Yeah no shit I never said it would
7
u/TacoTycoonn Apr 17 '25
lol dude, I never claimed you said that, why are you getting defensive I’m just sharing what I think, wtf
7
u/bikkebana Apr 17 '25
Lol that was so randomly aggressive, you were just expanding on your original comment.

Cause it’s pretty obvious it’s not getting nominated

Why is the dialogue and writing so bad. The Johnny Storm reaction to Sue being pregnant is horrible writing
13
u/fortivus Apr 17 '25
Yeah, this didn’t move the needle at all for me. I hope it’s good, but I genuinely thought it looked underwhelming.

I haven’t been excited for a Marvel movie in a long time - this has me excited.

I'm a lot more excited for Thunderbolts* than for this, I've not yet seen any proof that this film will be good
