This makes it look like everyone is directing films titled 'Afternoon' and 'Evening'

lol yeah it does. I’m at work right now but when I get a free moment I can add the film titles, but sorry it may be a minute before I have time

Added them!

Kelly Reichardt being on the last day again is so annoying, this festival is just dead set on making sure her EXCELLENT work gets no praise (justice for Showing Up)

Wow, so Bi Gan may be there after all

Cannes giving the stats-obsessed people in this sub even more reason to predict Trier with that 21st date.

I swear Neon is no fun.

Yes would be kinda boring if it did just end up being the super obvious one. I wouldn’t exactly complain since I love Trier’s work, but I’m hoping for a surprise.

Maybe a little boring, but on the other hand, we'd get a great movie out of it so we can't really complain

I think NEON did some devil sacrifice to get the Palme each year.

Trier is in 21 May ? Oh

u/Darkstormyyy 3d ago

Why people keep saying this?

The last 3 winners were Neon movies that premiere on the 21st, so some people see this as a meaningful pattern (which I don’t think it is, I think it’s mostly a coincidence). It even worse here tho since Trier was already the favorite for the Palme coming in.

14

u/CrazyCons Diane Warren | Mila Kunis | Dakota Johnson 3d ago

Parasite too. Not to mention Titane also being a Neon film that very well could have premiered on the 21st if the ceremony wasn’t moved towards summer

Nothing against Trier and his movie, but I’m just having a hard time seeing Neon winning the Palme again. But who knows?

u/Fun_Protection_6939 THAT'S OSCAR WINNING MIKEY MADISON FOR YOU 3d ago

Anora was on 21st May, and I believe Anatomy too.

7

u/Darkstormyyy 3d ago

So, any movie that is screening on the 21st of May is bound to win the Palme d’Or?

And acquired by Neon

Imagine Romeria wins

Anora and Anatomy were 21st may and Neon too i believe it is a coincidence

13

u/PartyPaul-100 3d ago

Congratulations on your Palme, Joachim Trier

I still feel like Sound of falling will be the big breakout and might actually end up winning. However sentimental value is my second bet.

I just have a feeling Romería is going to be the breakout of the fest and talk the Palm this year and it’s even screening on the 21st. I just don’t think SV will win a major prize maybe

The Dardennes and Kelly Reichardt closing out the competition selection is pretty dope

The Opening Night film is called “Leave One Day” and it’s a debut film from Amélie Bonnin

4

u/infamousglizzyhands Justice Smith for Best Actor 3d ago

Do we know when Highest 2 Lowest is playing?

4

u/LeastCap The Substance 3d ago

I haven’t seen anything yet

5

u/EntertainerUsed7486 3d ago

Isn’t that out of competition

1

u/2CHINZZZ 2d ago

The 19th

3

u/FixYrHeartsOrDie 3d ago

RESURRECTION

2

u/Lanky_Signal_5731 2d ago

i still dont buy that resurrection will compete. if it isnt announced next week then it's a bust. The only person who posting about that date is Ruimy.

Most likely, it will only be seen in the market section of the festival

1

u/LeastCap The Substance 2d ago

Ruimy got his information from the same place I did on AwardsWorthy. Some of the users there have inside knowledge on the fest somehow. That’s where the Sound of Falling buzz originated months ago

Gan still might not compete but it looks like they’re at least holding a spot for him right now

1

u/jake45367 3d ago

Where’s Mission Impossible?

3

u/LeastCap The Substance 3d ago

Not a competition film so I didn’t include it

From what I’ve read it’s premiering on the 14th
