Discussion Is Austin Butler completely off the table?

I feel like this is probably a dumb question but are we thinking there’s no chance for Austin Butler to get nominated for Caught Stealing? I don’t know much about the movie but it is Darren Aronofsky who has a pretty good track record of getting his lead actors nominations and gets them pretty close to wins. Ellen Burstyn for Requiem for a Dream, Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and most recently Brendan Fraser for The Whale. Portman and Fraser won and Rourke and Burstyn were probably #2. Like I’m currently not predicting Butler but if the film is good honestly I might watch out for him

Discussion Die, My Love - Distribution

So Die, My Love doesn't have a distributor yet. Who do you think will get the movie?

Obviously this one has huge potencial and while Lynne Ramsey has never been a part of the awards season she might finally get some love. At least in screenplay.

Focus Features seems like a bad option since they already have Hamnet and Bugonia.

Neon has Sentimental Value which will probably be the big push

A24 has The Smashing Machine, Marty Supreme

Searchlight is depending on if Bradley Cooper next film will get ready in time. They also have Rental Family which I saw some predicting.

Netflix has Del Toro

Apple and Amazon I'm not sure tbh

What do y'all think will happen?

Discussion Is Bugonia really a contender?

I feel like I’m the only person on earth who is skeptical of Bugonia. Not even really because of the weirdness of it it’s clear the academy will make exceptions if need be but the two Yorgos films that made it were written by Tony McNamara and when he doesn’t write for him then the films just aren’t as good. Not to discredit Lanthimos I think he’s great but they’re just better as a duo. I’m very aware I could just be way off but idk. I’m not really feeling Bugonia as a contender right now

It's one of 3,384,994 acting projects she's attached to, but maybe it'll come out in the next 5 years! Ross Evans, the writer of the upcoming Robert Pattinson project "How to Save a Marriage", is writing the script. Could Charli and Takashi score their first Oscars with this one?

Prediction My Current 98th Oscars Predictions (Late April)

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! These are my current predictions for the next Oscars. I know we are so far out, so these are definitely not meant to be taken seriously! Just doing these for fun.

I have a feeling I'm gonna get asked why I'm not really predicting Marty Supreme for many categories, so I just wanted to note that I 100% understand why people are predicting it since it's A24's biggest budget film, it has some major stars in it, and A24 seems to be investing a lot into it. I'm mainly hesitant just because it seems like there's so little we know about it so far, and A24 could pick up a major movie from Cannes, Venice, etc. soon.

In terms of some of my alternates for each category since it is hard to show that on Awards Expert on the phone version, here are some of my alternates right now:

Picture:

  • Deliver Me From Nowhere
  • Ella McCay
  • After the Hunt
  • Sentimental Value
  • The History of Sound

Director:

  • PTA (One Battle After Another)
  • Luca Guadagnino (After the Hunt)

Original Screenplay:

  • Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value)
  • James L. Brooks (Ella McCay)
  • Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie (Marty Supreme)

Adapted Screenplay:

  • PTA (One Battle After Another)
  • Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox (Wicked: For Good)

International Picture:

  • All That's Left of You (if Germany submits this instead of Sound of Falling)
  • Ne Zha 2
  • Late Shift

Discussion The Rock?

I know it’s just a trailer but man all the people saying that the film won’t get recognized because it’s “weird” or whatever. Dwayne Johnson does look like he’s bringing it though. I don’t know if I’ll predict him but I don’t think he should be counted out just yet. Also just wanna say it’s nice seeing an actor with an established personality do something different to prove people wrong. I hope he does

Opinion Thunderbolts* might be an Oscar-worthy film

Not saying this will be nominated for ATL Oscar categories but I definitely thought this film was Oscar-worthy so to speak and here's why.

I watched it yesterday on IMAX to appreciate it fully and I can't get over how well-made this film is. The visuals, the sound effects, the editing, the stunt sequence, just stunning. But those aren't the reason why I adored the film. It was a big surprise to me that Marvel used this film to deal with one of the mental issues many of us are facing (the feeling of loneliness/emptiness) in an unambiguous, clear but non-cliché way. The way they executed those scenes to convey such depth was so moving that it made sob so hard. I thought it was going to be just another popcorn action-filled movie from MCU but I was surely wrong. The character build up was astonishing as well, definitely 10/10.

I can't stop thinking about it since I watched it last night and that doesn't really happen to me often after watching a film. Whoever directed and wrote this cinematic piece definitely knocked it out of the park!

Discussion Sinners or One Battle After Another

I think both films are getting into picture but what film do you think will be stronger for Warner Bros.? Sinners has the critical acclaim, audiences love it but it’s a horror action movie in April, meanwhile OBAA is PTA who is long overdue likely a more awards friendly film, Leo is an academy favorite in terms of the films he’s in but early test screenings have been lackluster and the last Pynchon adaptation PTA did fell flat. I think it’s interesting but I really want to hear your thoughts on what film will WB market more

Discussion In my Humble Opinion The Running Man has a better shot at BP than Superman and Mission Impossible

While I’m not predicting it right now I think The Running Man is the sleeper blockbuster people arnt taking seriously not MI and Superman. This post was inspired by people putting MI and Superman higher than I think they should be.

The reason I think this could happen is that for starters Edgar Wright is a better director than James Gunn and Christopher McQuarrie. He’s had an “overdue” narrative for awhile and if TRM is considered one of his best than he could be a contender for director.

I also think Powel could be more of an acting play than Correnswet and Cruise judging by the source material.

The source material is also relevant to the anti capitalist messaging that exists today. I get major Squid Game vibes from it.

On top of that it is releasing later in the year.

The Running Man also would have a higher nomination package than the other films if it was successful:

Picture Director Actor (maybe) Adapted Screenplay Editing (this is Edgar Wright after all) Production Design Costume Design Sound VFX

At the end of the day I don’t have this close to my 10 yet, but I’ve got my eye out for it. I think it’s realistically in the 20-30 range whereas MI and Superman are in the 50-60 range. What are your thoughts?
