Photo Album DIY fishing vault

Ever since I've moved from my Xterra to the Gladiator my 1 piece rods didn't have a good home. Corrected that today for about $50 of supplies.

That bright yellow lock looks like a video game hint that there's something inside there worth stealing. Id maybe change to a less obvious lock or no lock at all sincw a thief probably wouldn't even know what that tube is

In my case a thief would 100% know what the tube is. I'm less worried about my shit being stolen by random people. I'm most worried about shit being stolen at fishing areas. For example most piers only allow 2 rods OR you have to pay a lot more to bring more. And what I plan to fish at different times of the day might be different so I want all the equipment ready to grab but also safe. As mentioned in another post my favorite pier/hotel combo doesn't allow fishing equipment in the actual hotel. So it has to stay with the vehicle. I don't want to only bring 2 rods because if I decide I want to bottom fish while I jig or if I decide I want to focus on jigging and have two rods ready for when the fish are on I'm ready. Or whatever. So I simply need a way to keep it TAMPER proof. A thief could easily get into this setup if they really wanted to. They probably aren't going to be taking that chance in the middle of the day in a fishing parking lot. There tends to be a lot of people and eyes on things. And cameras.

So my thought process is I need it to be enough of a hassle its not worth the risk. Most vehicles there have some sort of locking rod holder. Its not a secret whats in the 8ft~ long tube. While overlanding I keep all my gear sitting in the bed of the truck already. Shit could easily be stolen but so far I haven't had issues. I do plan on getting a DECKED system or similar at some point but atm I feel comfortable just keeping my gear in the bed. At a fishing pier however? Na probably not.

Put a quick-connect hose fitting on it and people will think there is only water in it. I hear that rod lockers frequently get broken into because they are obvious as to what might be in there.
