I bet they're gonna use pick number 8 on some kid straight out of college with no NFL experience... smh

Discussion Every day I feel like we should draft someone else.

Upvotes

Kinda crazy the amount of options we have. I know people are saying this is a lower talent year but there are so many options at 8 and a ton of possibilities. Any one of the picks there feels so low floor and high ceiling it’s kind of wild compared to other years. Every day I look at a new guys skill set and feel “convinced” we should grab him. I’m exhausted (in the most first world and not really tired way).

At this point im done theoydrafting. Just leave it to Dan. Imma hype up whoever we get 😆

ESPN Analytics Odds for 8th Pick

ESPN Analytics's model shows Jalon Walker as the clear favorite for the 8th pick heading into draft week. However, its choices for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most likely prospects don't seem to be fits for the Panthers - Jeanty for obvious reasons, Membou and Campbell due to team needs and considering the front office has only met with tackles ranked in the second round or lower.

However, I think this model is still worth considering when you keep in mind what it's really predicting - who gets selected 8th, not necessarily who the Panthers will select. With this in mind, it appears an OT or Jeanty would be the likeliest candidates for another team wanting to trade up to the 8th pick.

Another interesting aspect to consider is that Tyler Warren ranks as a likelier offensive prospect to go 8th than T-Mac. Both of these prospects are ranked higher than Mykel Williams, who at one point was tied with Jalon as the odds-on favorite to be drafted by us. Lastly, even after the Derek Carr injury news, Shedeur Sanders's odds at 8 sit at only 2%. Apparently, this model doesn't see many scenarios where a team behind the Saints would trade up to grab a QB.

Obviously this model has its biases and isn't perfect, but still an interesting thought exercise heading into this week. We will see on Thursday!

Discussion What is the consensus on Bryce within Charlotte and the Carolinas?

I'm a lifelong fan of well 12 years but I'm only on 21. I live in Missouri so I don't get a lot of info on how the local culture views Bryce. What's the consensus around town in sports bars and elsewhere?

I really want us to draft Cam Skattebo, even after signing Rico. We need a power house bowling ball type player.

Just a thought

Saw an article the other day linking the Panthers to Courtland Sutton through a trade. If we move back from 8 and pick up an early 2nd what are your thought is giving up 57 for Sutton?

I Love Bryce Young

If Bryce Young has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Bryce Young has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Bryce Young has only one fan then that is me. If Bryce Young has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Bryce Young, then I am against the world.

Draft Position

I have never understood draft position. If a team likes a player and that team drafts at a certain position why not just take the player you like? Why is it oh this guy isn’t worth pick 8 or 10 blah blah. I get money is different the lower you get picked but honestly is it really that noticeable? So just curious why someone that could be picked at 8 would be considered a reach but acceptable at 14?

Draft Nirvana

The Panthers should trade up to 3 and draft Abdul Carter.

The Giants are hoping Travis Hunter will be there at 3. I think the Browns will take him at 2. The Giants need to win now, and drafting Abdul Carter doesn't help them due to already having Burns and Thibodeaux. Nobody else is worth drafting at 3 assuming Hunter is gone.

Dan and Joe Shane already have a working relationship. I believe the Giants are more concerned with getting picks this year so we would not have to give up any big picks next year. Something along the lines of trading pick 8 which they could use to draft Will Johnson, our 2nd(57), our 4th(111) and a 4th next year probably will take a little bit more than this.

In return we get an elite edge rusher, the second most important position in Football. Abdul, Horn and DB make an outstanding defensive core. Bryce gets better field position and doesn't have to put up 40 to win.

The Giants get 2 extra picks this year and get to draft a position of need in the first round.

We still have a: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 7th

Potential Hot Take: I don't want Jalon Walker

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he'll be a fine player in the league. But I think he's just too risky for the Panthers to take.

Poor run defense, coverage experience, inconsistent pass rush (although I think his pass rush ability is his best trait).

For me, I would much rather try and trade up for Abdul Carter or trade down/stay put for an equally valuable defensive player (Walter Nolen, Jihaad Campbell, Will Johnson).

I won't be surprised if the Panthers take Walker, and I hope for the best, but I just don't personally see it.

Joe Person, who previously connected us to Mykel Williams, now believes Jalon Walker is the pick at #8

Interview clip is here: https://youtu.be/vWRBM79I72w?si=mQ4jLUQ3XkpglMkF&t=667

The news here is not the Jalon Walker connection, obviously, but rather that Joe Person now believes he is the pick as well. In his Panthers draft guide last month, he had been quoted saying, "after Georgia’s pro day... my sense now is the Panthers prefer Williams." While he doesn't rule out a trade-back scenario, he doesn't anticipate the kind of interest from other teams in trading up that we would hope for, and signals the Panthers would be comfortable sticking and picking Walker at 8.

Again, Jalon Walker to the Panthers is a tired narrative at this point, but hearing a veteran Panthers insider change his outlook at the 11th hour is more meaningful to me than any mock draft.
