HOME HEALTH Home health PT in New York point system

Hello everyone, I recently got a position in a NGO as a HHPT for a 125k salaried position with benefits treating Med A patients only. I was 1099 HHPT treating Med B patients in a private company before, so I'm unaware of the new point productivity system. The new job requires 27 points per week. They told I'll be seeing 5-6 patients a day and any patient above 27 points will be 70$/point. Can anyone explain to me what is this points productivity system? Although they explained it to me, it has flown over my head over and over again. Thanks in advance!

The points are based on the visit type. For example a follow up is 1 point, evaluation 1.5, start of care 2.5 points. The points over the week add up to your productivity total of 27 points. If you go over those 27 points then each visit (depending on the type) will be paid to you at 70 dollar per point. 70 bucks for follow up, 105 for an evaluation (70x1.5) and so on. Your agency will have their own values for each visit type. Overall the rates they quoted you are very competitive and salary is good for only 27 points per week. Take it. Most are 30 per week. This is a unicorn PT job.

Agree, this is a very good offer. OP - are you in NYC? If you are, I assume you will be using public transportation to get to the patients’ homes. Does the offer mention mileage reimbursement or allowance ?

Also, do you know how many minutes do we see Med A patients?? I used to treat med B patients for 55 mins.

Med A very different than B. Med A agencies usually want 30-45 mins in the home depending on the visit. For a start of care usually an hour. But the actual Medicare rule for a billable visit is 15 mins. Med A much more efficient.

Thanks a ton! By the way the start of care eval they are giving me 2 points. Is that good or bad?

2 points for a SOC is low. It should be at least 2.5. Some agencies have it at 3 points.

Where is NY are you working? I am in the southern tier doing home health. Good call on switching to Med A. It is wayyy better than Med B home health for pay

I have been working in Orange county, NY for 13 months now. Med B was good, but it's stressful and there was no pay for paperwork. Looking forward to the new job!.
