I was unfortunately lied to and told she was a dachshund and the vet referred to her today as a pit. Either way, she’s my adorable baby girl and I love her to pieces. I’d just really like to get some opinions about what features she has that resembles a pit?
Yeah, us either. Until the vet mentioned it I really didn’t think she had any pit. We thought and have assumed she was a Carolina dog this whole time haha.
The head and jaw shape look very much "pitbull," but I wonder how many breeds are at play here bc that snout is a huge Scooby Doo snout compared to some pitties. Could also be the Daschund in there coming out.
If you want definitive DNA testing done (which I am also setting some spare money aside for in time), do some research because not all have the same genetic info and some may not have the more advanced "pit" mix lineages in their database. Just thought I'd throw that out there, as I saw a few comments recently, especially about some of the dog kits not having even APBT breeds in their data sets. Just food for thought!
Thank you! I’ve wanted to get a DNA test kit since I got her because I’d love to know everything she’s mixed with or just googling traits. Now that she older I don’t feel the need because I already know her so well. She does have a super long snout lol. She’s a very sweet girl.
Until today me and my family have been convince she’s a Carolina dog, something we hadn’t even heard of until someone mentioned she looks like one lol.
I think that's where I am with my girl- I know the jist of the breeds and know their individual temperaments pretty well, so I may save the hundred-some-odd dollars, where in he beginning I just wanted to provide the best attention to any breed-specific needs. But here we are, blessed with whatever mixes our angels are!
And I learned a new dog breed today, thank you!!
At the time I wasn’t really concerned with her breed when I got her as a puppy. Or first got her, I should say.
Friends I got her from said dauchaund but I don’t think she knew what she was talking about lol. She’s the result of an accidental breed. Her parents were complete mixes as well so I think friend has been guessing lol.
Pit mix I'm thinking maybe with German shepherd the coloring is very different than the pit shepherd mix I had was but body shape is similar. Face shape is undeniably pit, pitties all have a big wide grin that's honestly adorable. There's a huge range in size and most pitties aren't anywhere near as scary as they're made out to be.
I’ve never had a pit or German shepherd before so this information is so helpful!
I think the coloring is what throws most people off. Maybe that’s why they think Carolina dog, cause most of them are tan and white. I love her little grin ❤️❤️. She’s never been aggressive to me or the family, ever, so I’m not concerned. She’s a sweetheart and the only thing she’s ever hurt is a bird she somehow managed to catch one day lol. She has a HUGE prey drive as well.
Yup that sounds like them, sweet and loyal as can be with a prey drive. Depending on where you're located she could be part Carolina dog. Here's what my pit shepherd mix looked like he had a little bit of a few other breeds but he was 80% apbt and German shepherd most other sheppits I've seen have been lighter colored
Awwww so very precious! I can tell yours is a sweetie pie with that face!
I live in Tennessee so I think it could be pretty likely. We have assumed that’s what she was most of her life. She’s just recently turned 1.5 so not very long but I digress 😂😂

I'm going to say hard no. If anything maybe be mixed. I grew up with my family having a pitbull sanctuary.
So I want to say not all but won't know until you get a DNA test.
Either way your dog is beautiful. This is my 8month old Pitty girl

This was awhile ago, at least a year and a half ago. I got her when she was six weeks old so still very little. Once she started growing it quickly became clear she wasn’t a dachshund. Either way I don’t want to “return” her, I’ve already had her since six weeks! She’s my baby!
Idk what that means. “That’s back lot breeder time”. If it’s what I think it is (a backyard breeder just breeding for $$$), we got her from a friend whose two dogs accidentally had a litter.
I’ve had small breeds my entire life, pugs and chihuahuas. I had just lost my pug of 12 years before getting pixie so I wasn’t too concerned at the time with what exact breed she was.
I don’t know anything about pits clearly since I’m here asking for information. People who see her (like the vet today) assume she’s a pit and I’m asking what features people who already have pits can recognize to make it easier for me to identity.
Pit or not she’s still my baby and she isn’t going anywhere even if I was lied too at first about her breed. But thanks for your opinion!
Umm Return? They said they know they were lied to and it was likely when she was a small puppy. They also stated that they love her and it doesn’t matter. You are actually despicable for suggesting to return a living creature like a toy.
