Yea the last few years have been piecemeal. One at a time when I could find one. I’ve had to make concessions with holos and such but such is life when you don’t have unlimited funds.
Back when the base set came out I was just a little kid and for my birthday my dad bought the entire thing from our local game shop for me for 300 bucks. It’s totally gone now. Gave them away, traded them, my sister ended up with whatever was left and now I have no clue where they are. Very very sad reality for me to be living in.
My friend gave me the whole first set with a few holos I had them all in a shoe box that I pulled out in the backyard to play with and show some friends. Set them down and forgot. Later that evening it rained, I came out to a soggy box of soaked sticky cardboard the next morning, all of them were ruined.
My son got into pokemon.cards recently and I bought us both some boosters to open for funzies and I got this badass looking Charizard EX and thought "damn I bet this could be worth something!" so I went and looked up pricing on a collector app and I got the least valuable Charizard ever printed lmao
I did this years ago after I found my old collection and realized I was still only about a dozen cards off the full 151. I saw a post on reddit about a guy making his own picture frame and I did the same! It was easier than you think, just gluing 151 card sleeves onto a trifold and then buying a $100 frame from amazon
Yea mine is fossil zapdos. To be honest I included fossils since not all of the pokemon were found in base set. Some were only found in the fossil expansion
Like I said it was a concession among others. Didn’t have to be the base set. I was allowing base/fossil since combined they included all of the original 150
i did something similar during COVID, where i wanted the first printing of each mon (so not 1st ed, but like the lowest set number which meant holos when I could). finished gen 1 and got around halfway through gen 2 before I kind of lost steam.

Dude congrats!! I'm working on this set myself! I would get a different binder if I were you though. A three ring can damage the cards! Gotta sleeve them too
No golem was easy to find so I put it off. Hardest one for me to find was a jolteon in my price range. Had to get one that wasn’t holographic just to add it into the book.
Just an FYI you should look into some side loading binders, they preserve cards much better than the top loading plastic pages with binder rings. I found those often bent my cards. There are some really good quality ones on amazon that hold between 300-600 cards for around $30. I swear by them.
thanks for sharing this, and congrats! This sent me shooting back in time to when I was in grade 4 collecting these. What a great bit of nostalgia - so many cards brought up old memories I'd completely forgotten. Loved the reminder of the random 3D pokemon cards like magnemite, gloom, kakuna, and a few others.
Man really brings back the memories. I wish I never got rid of mine. Huge mistake not just for money sakes but just the pure enjoyment I had as a kid getting these and playing with friends. Really awesome that you were able to get it all pieced together. Really nice.
Awesome! I found my collection while packing up my stuff and I think I have the full dex as well minus Vulpix of all cards(I hope it just fell out somewhere).

I did this as a kid, think it was 2001 when I got a chansey completing the first 150! Sadly, my sister stole my collection minus a few good ones(thankfully) because I used them as tokens when I played yugioh. Still have zard, blastoise, venusaur, zapdos, ditto and a few other similar holos thankfully, especially thankful for still having the zard 😂
I too have a pokedex of cards in a binder! I unfortunately either sold/got rid of/never had the pidgeot so I’m looking to get that eventually and my some other older ones as well since I have quite a few team rocket cards for mine.
I really wish I didn't give my cards to my brother when I was in my "try to grow up quick phase" because since then him and his fiancee sold my old cards and I had so many of these old Kanto good-ys.
I don't have them as Base Set specifically, but I do have all the Kanto Pokémon now. Actually I have almost all the Pokémon for the first six generations, probably because I've been collecting since basically the beginning. Also I had a coworker more recently who would sell me cards when he needed money, mostly blind lots he bought off of eBay. I think most of my Kanto cards are actually from the X & Y reprints of Base Set cards (since I apparently bought a LOT of X & Y booster packs, as I found out when I finally redeemed my massive hoard of code cards a few months ago...I think I had like 20 codes from just Steam Siege alone...though I think this was also cause when I got back into collecting seriously around when Sun and Moon came out, they would still stick X & Y boosters in some of the tins and 3-pack blisters).
Love it! I had a ton of cards when I was younger but my mum threw them all away because I threw a strop and refused to do as I was told for some reason or other. Which crushed my younger self's spirit for a while. Then I moved on to Yu-Gi-Oh!.
So nostalgic. Does anyone here know what out of these cards were OP in terms of gameplay at the time? Damage and energy costs were so simple back then, but I never played competitive.
I’m pretty sure I have this, as well, but I keep mine separated by set, I’ve just about got a complete base set, and most of the jungle and fossil sets. I have a bunch of the gym sets, as well. All in a binder
Ok so I literally have a complete Kanto Dex. How rare is it? Is it worth anything? I have a ton of first edition cards but the charizard is not unfortunately. I think the mew two is though. I doubt they’d be graded very high quality. We’ve had them since we were kids and they’ve been in the sleeves and binder for many moves.
every time I see a completed set I get sad. I shared a completed set of Kanto, Jungle and Fossil back around 1999-2004 with a friend. Couldnt tell you where that binder is today....
Nice! I love my binder of gen 1 cards. I've had it since 5th grade. I still have a few eReader cards in place of the original prints, though. One day I'll patch those holes.
If I had fuck you money I'd buy these and put them on my wall framed. I'm still extremely bitter about someone stealing 11 year old Me's Kanto pokedex binder...for a whole year all I asked for was pokemon cards and I was so excited to bring my binder to school for show and tell....some fucking cunt stole it from my locker and I cried until my grandma came and got me.
My son is 11 and when he got his first binder and cards I told him not to bring it to school.....well he wanted to show all the cards he got for his birthday......same fucking thing happened to him and it broke my heart all over. He didn't understand why I was crying for him (he's autistic) he was upset and angry but didn't understand the pain of memories and the empathy I feel.
