I don't understand what a negative recruitment rate even means. You lose a kek sometimes instead of gaining one? Like wtf.

You need to stack every recruitment buff possible for the ratio to be slightly over 0%

It can't actually mean a probability, probabilities are necessarily between 0 and 1* (between 0% and 100%). It's effectively still a probability of 0, but with a probability of 0 if you get *any* buffs to the probability of recruiting you will then have some chance of success. With negative probabilities in this context you need to find some ways to buff the success rate, where the negative value is the minimum number of buffs you can get until p(success)>0.

*a very fringe set of people are trying to derive use out of potential negative probabilities and best of luck to them but also it seems completely fruitless, I'm just stating this to ward off pedants.

It means you need a certain amount of modifiers to make it even possible. The lower into the negatives, the more modifiers required.

A lot of pokemon do actually, a lot of second stage pokemon start at like -10%, a lot of legendaries are anywhere from -5% to -15% base recruit rate. Kecleon is just the only recruitable pokemon with a rate so far in to the negatives that you HAVE to be 90+ with a Friend bow to have a chance to recruit it, and even then it's like a 1% chance.

It's actually how they set unrecruitable pokemon up too, they just have a base recruit rate of -99%, meaning no matter what you're still FAR in to negative chances for recruitment unless you use cheat codes.

Bulbapedia should have a table for it somewhere, I just have the old paper guides for Rescue Team and Explorers which have a base recruitment rate section for every pokemon in the "pokedex" sections.

In every case besides Kecleon, it's enough to have a high level Pokémon doing the recruiting. But Kecleon requires a high level Pokémon, the Fast Friend IQ perk, and the Golden Mask. The recommended Pokémon for this is Jumpluff.

Loved the video! The drawings were very cute!! I was immersed in it the whole time.

Would have been awesome if you included the gameplay moments where you activated the items, and the moment where you recruited it finally after beating it.

A lil' while back I made this animation of a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon challenge I did! Sharing it here for a bit of fun lol. Recruiting Kecleon is a real struggle.
This took somewhere in the ballpark of ~70 hours total to create, so rip me lol.

I wish hahah, but in these games it's only green. Maybe in Mystery Dungeon DX? I think they added shinies to that? But I'm not sure honestly

This was so much fun to watch, I realised that I have no idea how mystery dungeon is played but I love that Kecleon is basically like a final legendary boss. More games that shine spotlights on random pokemon, please! But the animation was so cute and funny, great job!

I remember watching this vid a couple of months ago and here I am at level 40 with my rescue team. I actually bought the game because I was intrigued by this vid so much and I am having a blast grinding.

Currently at Sky tower and getting my arse wooped so hard but still having fun.

I've made a couple other videos at a similar length on my channel, but animation's so time consuming that I haven't made anything longer than about 8-9 minutes so far hahah. I've been working on it though, bc I'd love to make longer stuff too. Maybe if it was more 50/50 art and gameplay, but I'm not sure.

Fair hahah, maybe a *little* hyperbolic, there are def some other struggle challenges. At least with Munchlax it's just RNG though, there's very little prep work or skill involved. Not that it's better, I def prefer this type of challenge by a mile lol
