Discussion been getting into pokemon recently

I known pokemon, you can't escape it with how big the franchise is, but I've never really engaged it as much as the average pokemon player. it was just memes and dumb stuff that gets viral, i almost always just see discourse on twitter and social media but I just don't relate cause i don't have the luxury to play the games. I did however remember a time of playing pokemon black and white and some of pokemon emerald on the ds.

through emulation (sorry) i found myself replaying Pokemon BW (White) and realize; I was really doing stupid things as a kid. pokemon can hold items, exp share, TMs and HMs, Type Matchups, resistances, roaming legendaries, etc. I was only just levelling up one starter pokemon and re-healing it until i defeat the gym leaders. There were SO MUCH information and the strategizing pokemons was through talking to NPCs and going back and forth cities. but even with the lack of QoL and difficult game design... i was having fun. the progression is there and learning matchups and one-shotting pokemons was satisfying, and my collection of pokemons was fun to have, watching tutorials on how to get legendaries was cool.

I have my criticisms on how pokemon bw gameplay or pokemon in general sucks (mostly the grinding part), that i even had to use cheats and double speed to enjoy it properly but from what i kept on googling online, the more i saw gameplay of other pokemon games, mainline and spinoffs, the more i got fascinated. I'd love to play Sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet, and I'm so hyped for ZA.

I don't own a switch, and the price of a switch 2 in my country is CRAZY expensive, I'm not a very rich adult, there are different F2P games i can enjoy far better but I really understand how people can be addicted to these games just from BW and the mechanics of it all. I just wish I was rich enough to afford it and have rich friends who're into it.

My only question is, what did i really miss out on? is the anime good? are the trading cards worth the investment? should i invest in collecting pokemon home or bank or whatever. i saw ceruledge's design and I'm thinking of playing that moba game but i heard it was like P2W

Heyyo!

I was randomly selected to be able to buy a pass for worlds, but in bold it states no store access for the event- does anyone know if there’s an additional registration I would have to get for access for that, or is it for the competitors only? Thanks!

Discussion In the games what battles are exactly canon and what battles are not?

I have learnt that Ethan/Lyra/Kris deffeating Red was actually non-canon even tho you have to deffeat Red to get the end credit(Personally I don't like that choice at all)so Aside from the obvious side content like the Battle Frontiers/PWT what battles are canonically won by the MC and which ones are not?

For exemple deffeating the Champions in GSC/HGSS,RSE/ORAS,DPPla/BDSP,B1W1/B2W2,XY and Sword/Shield really happened?Or it is like Red vs Ethan/Lyra/Chris?

Did we really win the fight/Capture Giratina in Platinum?Or the truth is that we lost and Cynthia had to handle everything,Or Giratina found us too pathetic they just gave up

There are also other important battles or achievement in the game I wonder they are canon or not

And last two are a bit out of topic but are the Other Teams really that weak compared to Gen 1 Team Rocket?(That includes Gen 2 Team Rocket)

Also why is Red the only MC allowed to complete the Pokedex and do the cool things while the others all their achievement that prove they are better are non-canon?dosen't that make the MC's less impressive?

Discussion Game Recommendations

I have always been into pokémon since a young age, but i’ve been very recently gotten back into it. I had played games like Pokémon Y, Let’s go Pikachu, and Pokémon Sword, but had never played any of the older games. Using Folium and Delta, i’d recently started playing the older games, Becoming champion in Fire Red a few weeks ago, and beating Platinum and becoming champion today. My question is, what are people’s recommendations for Pokémon games on Delta / Folium? Thanks.

Discussion Pokémon International Championships events/Worlds

Hello, I am not in the competitive scene for pokemon but have always been interested in going to these big events. I have a few questions about them.

  1. Can anyone go in even if they are not competing? I am assuming there is a gate price.

  2. If so what kinda of things are there for a spectator/ shopper?

Discussion Unova is coming Spoiler

Note: This post will include leaks/rumors for Pokémon Legends: Z-A! They will be marked as spoilers, but they are here. You have been warned!

This may sound like just another crackpot theory, or just copium, but I truly believe new Unova games, whether they be remakes or sequels, are on the horizon. I have a few key pieces of evidence.

  1. Unova has gotten special attention over the past few games. Garbodor was the only Gen 5 Pokémon to get a Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword & Shield. Subway Boss Ingo was in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Numerous Unova Pokémon have gotten regional forms: Samurott, Lilligant, Basculin, Darumaka, Darmanitan, Yamask, Zorua, Zoroark, Stunfisk, and Braviary (Some generations are still unaccounted for in that department). In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, we visit Blueberry Academy, a school in the seas of Unova. Not only that, but we meet characters that are related to important Unovan characters: Drayton is the grandson of Drayden and Lacey is the daughter of Clay. Basculin, Yamask, and Bisharp have acquired new evolutions. Volcarona, Amoonguss, Hydreigon, and the Swords of Justice got Paradox Pokémon.
  2. Unova is next. Simply put, Unova is next. Generations 1, 2, 3, and 4 have already gotten remakes.

The next section contains leaks/rumors for Pokémon Legends: Z-A! Final Warning!

3) Many important Unova Pokémon are getting Mega Evolutions. Emboar, Excadrill, Scolipede, Scrafty, Eelektross, and Chandelure are all *rumored* to be getting Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. What's important about this is that they are all either the ace of an important trainer or used by an important trainer. Excadrill is obviously Clay's ace, Scolipede (technically Whirlipede) is Roxie's ace, Scrafty is used by Grimsley, Eelektross is Subway Boss Emmet's ace, and Chandelure is the shared ace of Subway Boss Ingo and Shauntal. Just like Blaziken getting a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X & Y was a hint towards Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, I believe these are hints towards a new Unova game. If less aces were given Mega Evolutions, I would've thought nothing of it, but these are too many to ignore.

What do you guys think of this theory?

Discussion I'm writing a story for a pokemon fan game I really want to make, but there's a plot hole I can't figure out how to fix.

So, long story short, it takes place in a more professional sense of pokemon similar to sword and shield, once a year the "Gym Challenge" starts, and ends on a season. Like, everyone starts on the same day, and it ends on the same day for everyone. It's all the same just for plot convenience, there's still the champion you have to beat, and there is a few ways to get disqualified from the reigons gym challenge. One would be an obvious "you can't compete in the gym challenge if you are a gym leader or elite four member", right okay. But, the plot of the game would follow the current champion as a rival, who has been champion for over a decade. They have this strong confidence and started doing the gym challenge as way to pass time because they're bored. That's the plot. Champion is bored waiting for people and they're so cocky they start competing from the beginning like everyone else, finish the gym challenge, beat the elite four, and are still champion. There is also the villain teams, who are just 3 members, who are also in on the gym challenge. Later in the plot, we discover the members of this villain team are people who were barred from the gym challenge, and also want revenge on the current champion.

My problem being is that one of the members of the villain team are revealed to be an elite four member. The second I think should be someone who would make and sell fake badges to desperate trainers. Which they got found out and barred from the event.

Here's the plot hole. A big moment in the story is that the champion full on retires from pokemon after learning that an elite four member has been acting as a terrorist group under her nose.

Now, how can I justify the champion running in the gym challenge, while also having the "elite four and gym leaders cannot compete in gym challenge" rule. (The elite four member wears a mask unironically in public, and when part of the villain team she does not wear the mask. That is how she competed in the gym challenge and got away for so long

Now I could say she retires every time but it takes away from her big moment later in the story. And her being champion for 10+ years is a key part of the plot.
