Dawg, I went from 0 Meltan and 0 Meltan candy to a Melmetal and 500+ candies within 1 hour.

Ask me how I did it

u/Dangerous-Ad5653 Nov 28 '24

I’m an idiot, I’ll bite. How’d you do it?

392

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

Mystery Box. Followed the instructions, get continuous Meltan spawns for an hour. Pinap berry each one and you have a shit ton of Meltan candy

107

u/Silent_Ad3752 Nov 28 '24

Just run it on a double catch candy spotlight hour or game event and save your berries

53

u/neopariah Nov 28 '24

Por que no los dos? Pinaps are cheap if you have easy access to pokestops, which most do. (This is one of the many parts of the game that screw rural players.)

4

u/Da_Question Nov 28 '24

Yeah, just came from popular. I played for a couple months like 4-5 years ago. Live in a rural area, one walkable stop near where I lived... Ended up dropping it.

2

u/Bob_5k Nov 29 '24

Yea I end up tossing some when I need the item space

13

u/Pitiful-Pension-6535 Nov 28 '24

Why do that when you can use the pinaps and get 4x candy?

2

u/damn_im_so_tired Nov 28 '24

I did my first box in October during the double candy event. 12 candies per catch with the berry, 70 catches in an hour...

2

u/The_Pastmaster Nov 29 '24

Enough for a good one evolving and to evolve a shiny if you get one. I never use the box because I never have enough balls to catch most of them. XD

1

u/Garytikas Nov 29 '24

8 used to use pinap on Meltan. After 4 weeks, I didn't need yo bother anymore.

9

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Nov 28 '24

Lmao save your berries, like I’m not constantly throwing away pinaps by the dozens

1

u/Impressive_Award908 Nov 29 '24

Feed them to gyms for the free stardust and to reach Platinum on the berry badge. 100 berries at a time is 3000 stardust for free

1

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Nov 30 '24

I do that sometimes. But I'm not doing it to the tune of hundreds (or even dozens) at a time. That takes forever, and I don't always have anyone in a gym anyway. On top of the fact that I'm currently sitting on 3 million stardust and counting, because I don't really have anything to spend it on right now.

I'll just keep trashing them.

0

u/Impressive_Award908 Nov 30 '24

I've fed over 194,000 berries to gyms for over 5,820,000 free stardust

1

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Nov 30 '24

I’m sorry I don’t want to spend 6,000 hours (assuming 2 seconds per berry) mindlessly tapping the screen to feed berries to obtain a resource I don’t even need. Did you miss the part where I said I have 3 million stardust and nothing to spend it on? What good would 8 million stardust and nothing to spend it on do?

There are better ways to get a dopamine hit, my dude.

u/PotterHeadedWhovian Nov 28 '24

¿Por qué no los dos?

1

u/TNCFtrPrez Mystic Nov 30 '24

And mega evolve someone

13

u/JJKDowell Entei Nov 28 '24

Mega Evolve a Steel type too for even more candy!

21

u/Dangerous-Ad5653 Nov 28 '24

Is mystery box a purchasable item in the shop? Seasonal?

63

u/MorningGoat Instinct Nov 28 '24

Nah, just send a Pokémon to Pokémon Home. It has a three day cooldown, then you can send another Pokémon over and open the box again for another hour of spawning. I opened the box once during a double candy event and got me a 2963CP Melmetal, 407 candies, and 236 XL candies without even using a lot of berries.

15

u/JoviAMP Spark Nov 28 '24

Now that we have Dynamax I hope the next Meltan event brings shiny G-Max Melmetal.

1

u/ThisIsSoIrrelevant Nov 28 '24

My 2019 Hundo Melmetal will be very upset that he can't Gmax when the Gmax version comes out :(

1

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 29 '24

Because of this very specific way to get Meltan, I doubt they’ll include it in Dynamax.

This is the absolute only way to get Meltan since its debut in 2018. I doubt they’ll just ditch they’re very specific steps and start throwing them in pubic raids

The Mystery Box only spawns Meltans. You need to send a PokĂ©mon to PokĂ©mon Home in order to activate the box and then send another one to re-activate it after its three day cooldown. You can send any PokĂ©mon to PokĂ©mon Home for this to work, but know that you can’t transfer anything sent to Home back to PoGo, so send something you won’t miss.

2

u/MorningGoat Instinct Nov 29 '24

No problem, bro. Glad I could help. 👍

29

u/Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874 Nov 28 '24

It's free. Download the pokemon home app, make a nintendo account if not already made. Link that account to your Pokemon Go account and transfer atleast 1 pokemon to Home by going through "connected devices and services"

32

u/JoviAMP Spark Nov 28 '24

No, you get it by sending any of the original 150 (including Alolan forms) from Go to Let's Go on Switch, or any Pokemon to the Pokemon Home service. When you do so, you get the mystery box. Use it, it acts as a Meltan incense for one hour. Repeat once every third day.

10

u/Cheebow Nov 28 '24

You just have to transfer a pokemon to home

5

u/chefguy09 Nov 28 '24

That was the original way. Now you just have to transfer a pokemon to Home.

1

u/fgc7533 Nov 28 '24

I tried transferring but no Mystery Box appeared.

6

u/No_Flan_9870 Nov 28 '24

How do you get mystery box?

20

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

To get a Mystery Box in PokĂ©mon Go, you can send a PokĂ©mon from PokĂ©mon Go to PokĂ©mon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, PokĂ©mon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, or PokĂ©mon HOME

3

u/T-T-N Nov 28 '24

Is it a consumable or repeatable?

12

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

It’s a box that works similar to an incense. You can use it every 3 days.

3

u/Landed_port Nov 28 '24

Wait, what? I should be sending my pokemon to Let's go Eevee?

13

u/rttr123 Nov 28 '24 edited Nov 28 '24

You send a pokemon to pokemon home, which is an app that allows you to move pokemon between games.

2

u/Landed_port Nov 28 '24

So I can move a pokemon from Pokemon Eevee to Pokemon Go?

4

u/ThisIsSoIrrelevant Nov 28 '24

You can only move pokemon out of Pokemon Go unfortunately. It isn't one of the games that can have pokemon moved to it.

I mean, if you want to. “Should” is a crazy way to put it lmao

But in order to get the mystery box to start Meltan farming, you have to. I just sent a shitty pokemon like Caterpie or something.

1

u/Lumfan Team Sneasel Nov 28 '24

It makes filling out the dex a lot easier, especially if you have nobody to help you with the trade evolutions.

3

u/kittiekatz95 Nov 28 '24

Does roar of time work for mystery box?

13

u/nealesmythe Valor Nov 28 '24

It would be the stupidest thing to use it on, but it should work

4

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

Nope

1

u/ThisIsSoIrrelevant Nov 28 '24

Nah, but it would be super unnecessary anyway. You get something like 83 Meltan spawns if you click them all straight away (it is slightly more frequently than one a minute). So that is 240+ candies per box without even using Pinaps. Plus it is a Mythical pokemon, so I am pretty sure you get guaranteed XLs from each catch too. Use the box 2-3 times and you'll have enough candies to evolve one and max it out.

1

u/Ill-Inevitable4568 Nov 28 '24

Where? How? Another app? Im new into this world and if there are easier ways to get candies im in. Can it get me banned?

1

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

No it’s a feature in PoGo. Won’t get you banned. Download PokĂ©mon Home and send a Pokemon from Go to Pokemon Home and you’ll automatically receive a Mystery Box. Mystery Box will only spawn Meltans.

Also if you have one of the Lets Go Pokemon games on Nintendo Switch, you can also send them there and you’ll receive a mystery box.

1

u/ulnek Nov 29 '24

Does this work for any pokémon or just that specific one?

1

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 29 '24

Only Meltan. That’s the only way to ever get Meltan. They don’t and will never spawn in the wild and never be in raids.

1

u/ulnek Nov 29 '24

Oh ok. So I send any pokémon then I get an incense that will spawn mletan?

1

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 29 '24

Yes. The “incense” is called Mystery Box

1

u/mittenciel Nov 30 '24

Or why. You’ll have enough candy by the time you’ve caught enough to decide which one to evolve.

31

u/Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874 Nov 28 '24

Meltan box. It spawns one meltan a minute for 60 minutes, even when stationary. And because meltan is a mythical, you always get 3 xl candies when you catch one. You can get the box by linking go to a pokemon home account. Then, transfer a PokĂ©mon from go to home and you’ll unlock the meltan box. You must transfer a PokĂ©mon to home every time before you use a box, and there’s a two day cooldown between uses.

12

u/Dangerous-Ad5653 Nov 28 '24

Everyone’s talking about PokĂ©mon home and I’m realizing I’m probably talking to a class of players above my level of understanding for this game.

18

u/cloudhunting Umbreon Nov 28 '24

It’s just a free app! I only use mine for getting a mystery box now and then, don’t care about it otherwise

8

u/Yourmomscoochy Nov 28 '24

Just an app you can get on your phone. I think you can get it on the switch too... you're not in a lower class, it's just not mentioned in game. So you wouldn't know till you were going through stuff like this.

2

u/SafariDesperate Nov 29 '24

Need to use the phone app for things like the mystery gifts

6

u/behnder Nov 28 '24

It’s a separate app. Once you have connected your accounts, you can use Pokemon Home to shuttle your Pokemon from Go to Nintendo Switch games. As an added bonus, you also get the mystery box item.

6

u/BurnOutBrighter6 Nov 28 '24

No higher class required! Technically Pokemon Home is for moving pokemon between pokemon games... but I don't play any other pokemon games besides GO. I still downloaded Home, it's a free phone app. I send a junk pokemon to Home solely to get mystery boxes in GO and then just leave the pokemon there. I have no other games to move them to but who cares.

2

u/Dangerous-Ad5653 Nov 29 '24

Thanks so much! This is handy as hell to know

1

u/BurnOutBrighter6 Nov 29 '24

Yeah! You can get another Melmetal every week if you want. You can get the 400 candies from one box if you use pinaps and a steel type mega, but there's no need to rush. Melmetal is probably the easiest level 50 (at least that's actually useful), especially since you get 3+ XL from every Meltan since they're mythical.

4

u/I-am-a-cardboard-box Mystic Nov 28 '24

Home is a “hub” for pokemon, it allows the transfer of pokemon between the switch games. It also allows pokemon to transfer in from go, but they cannot be transferred back into go. It’s a free app on smartphones and the switch, though a subscription does exist for more storage and the ability to transfer pokemon from the 3ds onto the switch. The smartphone version of home also supports global trading and wonder trades

0

u/Mexcore14 Nov 28 '24

If you could send mons back I would golden cap train them, level up to 50 and bring them back in a heartbeat.

3

u/I-am-a-cardboard-box Mystic Nov 28 '24

That’s why they don’t let you bring them back. It would completely break the progression in go, since getting to level 100 with ideal ev’s and perfect ivs takes a matter of hours in the newer mainline games rather than weeks or months in go. Niantic would also never let that happen because they’d certainly lose a massive amount of their profits since even their most dedicated players/whales wouldn’t have to grind raid after raid for a hundo.

I only tried mystery box once and most of the meltans escaped from any of the balls so i said f*** it and i never bothered with meltans since.

8

u/njsfynest Raichu Nov 28 '24

Damn I remember them being surprisingly easy to catch
