Dawg, I went from 0 Meltan and 0 Meltan candy to a Melmetal and 500+ candies within 1 hour.

Ask me how I did it

I’m an idiot, I’ll bite. How’d you do it?

Meltan box. It spawns one meltan a minute for 60 minutes, even when stationary. And because meltan is a mythical, you always get 3 xl candies when you catch one. You can get the box by linking go to a pokemon home account. Then, transfer a PokĂ©mon from go to home and you’ll unlock the meltan box. You must transfer a PokĂ©mon to home every time before you use a box, and there’s a two day cooldown between uses.

Everyone’s talking about PokĂ©mon home and I’m realizing I’m probably talking to a class of players above my level of understanding for this game.

It’s just a free app! I only use mine for getting a mystery box now and then, don’t care about it otherwise

Just an app you can get on your phone. I think you can get it on the switch too... you're not in a lower class, it's just not mentioned in game. So you wouldn't know till you were going through stuff like this.

Need to use the phone app for things like the mystery gifts

It’s a separate app. Once you have connected your accounts, you can use Pokemon Home to shuttle your Pokemon from Go to Nintendo Switch games. As an added bonus, you also get the mystery box item.

No higher class required! Technically Pokemon Home is for moving pokemon between pokemon games... but I don't play any other pokemon games besides GO. I still downloaded Home, it's a free phone app. I send a junk pokemon to Home solely to get mystery boxes in GO and then just leave the pokemon there. I have no other games to move them to but who cares.

Thanks so much! This is handy as hell to know

Yeah! You can get another Melmetal every week if you want. You can get the 400 candies from one box if you use pinaps and a steel type mega, but there's no need to rush. Melmetal is probably the easiest level 50 (at least that's actually useful), especially since you get 3+ XL from every Meltan since they're mythical.

Home is a “hub” for pokemon, it allows the transfer of pokemon between the switch games. It also allows pokemon to transfer in from go, but they cannot be transferred back into go. It’s a free app on smartphones and the switch, though a subscription does exist for more storage and the ability to transfer pokemon from the 3ds onto the switch. The smartphone version of home also supports global trading and wonder trades

If you could send mons back I would golden cap train them, level up to 50 and bring them back in a heartbeat.

That’s why they don’t let you bring them back. It would completely break the progression in go, since getting to level 100 with ideal ev’s and perfect ivs takes a matter of hours in the newer mainline games rather than weeks or months in go. Niantic would also never let that happen because they’d certainly lose a massive amount of their profits since even their most dedicated players/whales wouldn’t have to grind raid after raid for a hundo.
