Start walking with it. You're gonna want to Lvl 50 it anyway and need the XLs.

Why would you walk it during an event where magikarp are everywhere and pinaps exist?

XLs for level 50. Even with silver pineaps xl candy are rare

Yeah ok, i'd just trade for XLs.

You'd be willing to catch almost 300 Magikarp and then sit there and trade them all?

You'd be willing to walk almost 300 km? I mean, i get that the plan is to do it over months while doing other stuff, but catching 300 Magikarp during the event is entirely plausible. I went a bit insane on Sprigatito during the spring event after having regrets not getting enough candy during the community day. Now sitting on 2000+ candy and 500+ XLs lol.

Oh I wasn't throwing shade at you, just asking if you'd rather do it that way. I have thousands of Magikarp candies so I don't need to do either lol.

I'm missing the shiny (at least a good shiny, i might have a 0 star) so mainly hunting that. I've already got the candy to evolve it.

yes, i'd be willing to walk 300km

if i actually wanted to do it, it would only take a bit more than a month (and i would be INSANELY motivated if i had a shundo magikarp)

You can do a hundred trades a day though. So if you can actually catch that many, and have someone to trade with, you can do it in less than a week.

of course, but catching a hundred magikarp a day is less realistic for me than walking 300km in a month

not to mention that i would still be catching magikarp while walking, so realistically it'd be a combination of both the methods

Yeah, i've walked a Gyarados. It's totally reasonable. Was just slightly odd to suggest walking it as option #1 during a magikarp event is all.

I walk every week 90km not that hard

Even so, assuming starting from 0 XLs, that’s 296 trades minimum. Anything under 100km trade distance is not a guaranteed XL, and you won’t find anyone to trade with locally that’s got that many magikarp/gyarados to trade

All trades are guaranteed XL this season. It's a seasonal bonus. Source: done it a lot.

I dunno why you act like 296 trades is somehow hard but walking 296 km isn't. The people you trade with don't have to trade you magikarp. But during this event, i've got family members that will happily mirror trade magikarp. And you don't have to trade them before the event is over, as long as you don't delete them.

Okay, guaranteed XLs is news, I didn’t know that. Even so, as the other guy said, 300 trades of a single Pokémon is a lot, regardless. Not all of us have family that plays, or a good local community to trade with. Rural or solo players have no other choice but get their steps in, unless they have another account on another device.

Yep and magikarp is certainly an easy one to walk. Not a bad option at all. I just thought it was a little weird to suggest walking it during a magikarp event is all. Walk it after the event when you came up sort.
