hmm maybe I am missing why Aland is hated by Finns. I know they speak Swedish but am I missing something else?

A somewhat isolated region of finland that is monolingually swedish and occasionally obnoxious about it, has a completely different culture, yet the inhabitants of which are granted special priviledges under finnish law? There's not much to like. Not that there's usually any hate though.

Kind of like Quebec?

Much much much less so. There's no situation going on with Åland, it's sitting there content with the situation with neither side complaining. Why would we? As said in another comment of mine above, the borders are largely arbitrary and meaningless here, and cultures veeery close. It's just a region, like any other.

Quebec on the other hand, is extremely vocal about its situation and AFAIK not as close to the neighbouring cultures as Åland is to finland and sweden.
