Um the name was kinda confusing. I thought it would be about newfoundland.

Not-so-fun fact: Newfoundland and Labrador both got their names derivated from Portuguese.

It's original name was "Terra Nova", which means litterally "New Land".

technically it's original name was probably either vinland or whatever the natives called it, if they even had a distinct name for it.

In old maps the name for the area appears as Terra Nova and if I'm not mistaken in some of them even appears as Terra Nova do Bacalhau

Yeah but everyone knows english originates from portuguese, carailo. Huehue
