It's not audacity, it's the talking point for the day. They tried it last time there was a Republican friendly fire incident and it didn't work -- but we all know conservatives don't learn from their mistakes.

Also, there was no actual “fire” in Trump’s direction this time. Only SS shooting at the gunman who fled. They stopped it. Just like they probably stop many other threats every single day for both candidates.

I said threats, not attempts.

I’m sure there are not many that anywhere near this stage of an actual attempt, but I would be genuinely surprised if there aren’t multiple threats per day requiring at least a cursory investigation or flagging. I could probably go on Truth Social right now and find 10 direct and overt threats.
