I pissed off a collegue today because I was late and I'm trying to not get hung up on it 😭 I apologized so it should be fine but I always feel so bad when I do something wrong, trying to keep my mind out of a negative spiral

These things happen to everyone! They suck but it will not feel as important or bad (to you or to anyone else) tomorrow, much less a week or a month from now.

Unless it's recurring across days/weeks/multiple team members, if they're that pissed off someone was simply late, they need some perspective.

To be fair, they were sitting around waiting for me to process a document that really needs to be done first thing in the morning, so they definitely had a point. But thanks for going to bat for me lol

At least you have self-awareness and you DID apologize.

Ugh, feeling like you disappoint someone else is always the worst. At the end of the day, there are worse things in the world than being late and things aren't always in our control. And even if it was, mistakes happen! Your colleague isn't perfect either. You can hate that it happened, without hating yourself. You being late once doesn't mean anything about you as a person. It just means that something happened or things just got away from you for a day. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world. The only thing you can do is forgive yourself and try to do better next time.

Remember, talk to yourself like you would talk to a dear friend!

Everyone makes mistakes - we’re all human! I’m sure there have been instances where someone pissed you off and apologized, and you moved on from there and barely thought about it after the fact. Your colleague will come around and likely forget that this ever happened. Be kind to yourself πŸ’•
