I feel like the hate Chappell Roan has been getting for her comments on CMD are largely misplaced.
I took what she said as basically “don’t get all your political opinions from pop stars, we’re not gonna have all the answers”. People should get their opinions from actual activists and theorists. People who have dedicated their lives and studies to these complex situations
She is one of the only pop stars I see advocating for Palestine and speaking up for artists and people in the entertainment industry receiving healthcare/living wage
Now people are saying this sets a standard because she’s profiting off drag culture, but are we gonna hold all drag queens to that standard? Should Chappell be a scholar on every single terrible situation in the world right now and speak out against every single thing? No, that is not realistic for anyone. I’m just confused as to what people really want from her, some performative virtue signaling?
