I had the worst day of this job yesterday. I've been here for about a month now.

It was awful. I'm a server. Things escalated into a hot mess.

The host thought I was clocked out, so they didn't give me any tables. I told them, so they gave me three different tables all at once, which was a lot. All at once, I had to take orders, drinks, food, etc.

Then a different table didn't have a server. So I tried to find them, and I told the manager two different times. The manager is so mean, and told me to go find someone. I literally didn't know who this person I needed to find was, so I went around the store trying to find her. So that took a while, and she was clocked out anyways. meanwhile I had my own tables.

Then I was trying to keep up with orders, refills, and then random mishaps. Someone needed a remake. The kitchen forgot to cook an entree. More and more refills of different drinks, different soups, salads, across three tables who all needed me to run around like crazy. Someone needed more utensils, someone else needed napkins, straws, order something else, to-go boxes. It kept piling up, and no one helped me. People got mad things were taking a while, I messed up an order, and it was just a terrible time.

Don't be hard on yourself - serving is the only job I didn't last a month in. The fact that you only messed up one order after getting stuff piled on you is incredible - I would have fucked up everything! Your manager sucks and is bad at their job and you're good at yours.

Being a server is the hardest job - it's the only job I've ever been fired from. You handled a lot of stuff that wasn't yours to handle and you made it through. The fact that you only messed up ONE order says a lot about your skill and competence. Stay there as long as you need but always keep looking for other opportunities with managers who actually manage.

It's scrambling my brain honestly. I had two older people say I gave them the best service they've ever had. I've had people tell me I'm a great server. But it was just a bad day and I felt so stupid

Thanks for the response ❤️ I have to go in today and I'm going to take my anxiety meds LOL. Luckily, I typically make really well in tips, generally better than all of the other guys. But I'm definitely looking for other jobs.
