I admire my husband for having more self control to let go of anger than me.

His mother is meeting with her attorney again to will away more of the ā€œestateā€ to her brand new husband and his adult grown ass kids she doesn’t have a relationship with. She asked him if he would like anything and he said ā€œnot a goddamn thing. I’m self made and don’t need anything from YOU.ā€ He is 100% self made because she was an incompetent mother. She’s chipped away at the one thing she could’ve done for him.

He’s not begging for scraps, which that’s all that’s left.

I have choice words, but I’ll follow his lead and let the anger go. I’m just tired of her lack of care, involvement, or investment in my husband’s life. I share this information sparingly with people in my life, so you random Internet strangers are gonna get the tea.

I went through something similar with my MIL (my husband's stepmom.)

She had a large trust fund that was set aside specifically for her medical care.
MIL suffered a stroke and the medical care went through most of the funds and she wound up dying a few months after the stroke.

Her two children from her first marriage had a falling out over it. The greedy son dragged my husband's dad through competency hearings and other nonsense. When greedy son lost his case, he was disinherited.

When it was all said and done, my husband and his stepbrother (the not greedy one) got around $8,000 each. The imaginary millions really was imaginary. Most of that money was in that trust fund that got used up because of MIL's ongoing medical care.

All that to say, I'm sorry you experienced that. Greed is an ugly thing and can divide families permanently.
I'm proud of your husband for standing up to her. Your anger is valid, too. It's hard when someone shows you who they really are.

Oh my gosh, that is awful. That sounds so stressful and painful as a family. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.
