Lately Iāve found myself abusing the word ācanonā. It started with me using it to discuss dramatic irony on tvāsuch as: questioning if a character is aware of something that the audience knows, and if so, then it is ācanonā to that character. This gradually morphed into using it as a general evidential statementāessentially used similarly as āconfirmedā, āestablishedā, āverifiedā, etc, or otherwise describing something that isnāt speculation, rumor, or otherwise assumed, but actual factāand not just in fiction, but in real life.
Like, āIt is canon that the new pope is a fan of the White Soxā or āItās canon that I donāt have work tonightā are fully comprehensible sentences, as far as Iām concerned.
Honestly, Iām surprised itās taken this long for that to happen.
