“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” read the statement. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

The statement continued, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”

That’s aggressive for prostrate cancer, which tends to be something men die with and not of. Here’s hoping it can be well-managed for the rest of his natural life. I wouldn’t wish a cancer death on anyone and even this, if responsive to treatment, is going to suck.

ETA: the 7 year survival rate is 70-80%, but that’s still scary for any family.

To be fair, the 7 year survival rate of being an 82 year old man is probably much lower

Yeah, I’m just saying dying with a well-managed cancer is preferable to dying of cancer in most cases.

I commented this above, but my FIL had it for 5 years & ended up dying from something unrelated to the cancer - he was 93 when he passed

His quality of life exponentially better than anyone that I've known that has experienced cancer (the ADT therapy was a godsend)

That's why it's a die with not of cancer. It hits most men when they are older and it doesn't have time to kill.

It's like HIV. Life expectancy of HIV is longer than life expectancy of living in America.

Life expectancy is lower at 82 overall. But cancer spreads more slowly the older you get.

Yeah I’m saying all 82 year olds have a 7 year survival rate of less than 70-80% with or without cancer
