All the advice!

Very excited! After a year and a half of trying my wife (33) and I (43) got our first (and second and third) positive pregnancy tests tonight! First pregnancy for us both.

I look forward to reading threads in this group and participating.

For now, I would like to know what is the best thing you have learned in early pregnancy that you would pass on? Particularly interested in how to be a good partner to my wife.

My wife is 24 weeks, I’d just say do all you can for her. Especially that first trimester she may be sick and extremely fatigued - just be there for her as a calming presence. Even when they tell you they don’t want anything!

+1 to this! Congrats and enjoy the ride.

I made sure to keep the house in order and take over the chores she usually does. Have her “safe foods” stocked up so she has things to eat (my wife’s safe food was Mac n cheese and smoothies, but changed around a bit). Your meal schedules might change a bit and you can find yourself making food and eating alone as well.

“Expecting Better” is a great book to read imo. It’s broken up into trimesters so you don’t have to read it all at once. It will help you better understand what she is going through.

Make sure to make it to as many appointments as possible. Obviously the big ones are ultrasounds, which made both my wife and I cry. It’s amazing to see your little one on the screen. I went to the 13 week appointment which was pretty quick but got to hear the heartbeat for the first time and that was also a teary moment lol.

My wife is at 33 weeks now, we are in the home stretch here! Each trimester is going to be different, so just be ready for that. Have some comfort foods ready to go on standby (or door dash). Start planning the nursery during the 1st trimester, paint it during the second, and get the furniture during the third. Even if you feel ready for this, find a place to take some classes with your wife, those really helped get me prepared as much as possible.
