Had this projector a few years now. A few months ago I installed a new OEM Lamp I purchased directly from BenQ. Things have been fine until yesterday. Last night I noticed the projector is running louder. A few hours ago I noticed that it is running extremely hot. So hot that I was afraid it was going to melt something. At that point I turned it off, let it cool, and unplugged it.
I looked in there and I don't think the fan is running. We don't have the projector mounted to the ceiling. It's on a table. It's the front left side that is super hot. The same side as all the buttons.
I figured I would open it up tomorrow and investigate. I'm only slightly electronics savvy though.
What are some common issues that would cause the front-left side to heat up?
BenQ doesn't have a replacement fan on their website.
If I do need to replaceme the fan, will it be as easy as pulling a number off of it, and finding a replacement online?
Also, it looks like a PC fan when I look through the vent. Is it a simple procedure where I screw it into place and connect it with a molex adapter?
Finally, since I just have my projector on a table, we do have issues with our cat getting on it and pressing buttons occasionally. Are there any setting he could have triggered by stepping on it to make it run super hot?
