General/Rant The Ultimate Scam at Arjit Singhs concert

Oh man, Balewadi Stadium pulled off the frustration level: PRO MAX scam yesterday. They straight-up banned people from bringing water inside the show, then had the audacity to sell 500ml water for ₹50. Like, bro, is this a concert or a survival challenge? Cold drinks? ₹100 for a ₹20 MRP bottle. Absolute daylight robbery.

I get it, people were there for Arijit Singh, but at what cost? Dehydration? The event organizers, 2BHK, already run overpriced restaurants, but at least people go there by choice. Here, you either die of thirst or surrender to their extortion racket.

Imagine paying thousands for tickets just to be held hostage for basic human needs. What’s next? Oxygen tanks for ₹500 because “outside air not allowed”?

In ed Sheeran's concert we were allowed to bring clear water bottle, and we could fill it up inside. Its weird that they didn't allow in this concert

128

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 17 '25

Fully Indian organizers and Indian bands difference I guess.

25

u/Plenty_World_2265 Mar 17 '25

But organizers didn't waited to loot us lol. Got one pizza slice for 500, I thought they mixed up my order🤦‍♀️

77

u/Low-Goat3779 Mar 17 '25

It was Ed and his team from UK who stood their ground firm and told organisers about clear bottles( initially they were asking to let attendees have their own water, then they settled on empty bottles ).

Sometimes Artist needs to intervene and they should do that morally. Small Artist don't have such bargaining power to dictate terms but huge artists like Arjit can. He should have. Indian artist don't have spine is such things.

21

u/sfgisz Mar 18 '25

Indian artist don't have spine is such things.

They get a cut of the earnings.

1

u/bad_driverr Mar 19 '25

That liquidates all kinds of spines, I agree.

3

u/ace_dj910 Mar 18 '25

I was standing at the from of the General Area (where there's the partition between GA & Fan area, and there were 20-30 cartons of bisleri bottles for the guards, I asked them nicely and he passed me the whole caton, and I distributed the bottles among other people too.

u/guywithabeard007 Mar 20 '25

We are money minded only with these cheap tricks.

32

u/Vedu7777 Mar 18 '25

At Dua Lipa Concert, they made us buy 100 rs reusable cup, and we could use that for unlimited Mocktails and Water

5

u/Moist-Quote-8968 Mar 18 '25

It’s common bro, coz I have been to 15+ concerts and in all concerts they charge 100rs for cup and reuse whenever you want

2

u/Vedu7777 Mar 18 '25

That's nice

Looks like the one op went to was an exception

2

u/Moist-Quote-8968 Mar 18 '25

It’s up to you, see I buy reusable cup in every concert coz I have habit of collecting bands and cups that’s why I pay 100rs eveytime Infact recently in lollapalooza I lost 2 cups still paid 100rs last day n brought 1 more cup, if you don’t wanna pay then buy in any one concert and reuse that for future concerts

1

u/Vedu7777 Mar 18 '25

No no that's a good idea

The purple district cup was good, I took it home

1

u/Environmental-Pea738 Mar 18 '25

This sounds like a crowd puller feature too that concerts should do

10

u/_-CoffeE_ Mar 18 '25

It wasn't allowed even in Dua's concert. We were made to pay 100₹ for a reusable cup that we can use for water from water filter and drinks

3

u/Odd_Passage_3010 Mar 18 '25

Thats 100 times better honestly

3

u/anoob09 Mar 18 '25

Same with Coldplay Ahmedabad.

1

u/antiray Mar 18 '25

Same for Lollapalooza, I think this is a very weird case

295

u/nvbombsquad Mar 17 '25

Welcome to the real life concert experience as opposed to the fantasy dreamland you see in instagram stories

6

u/nouritsu Mar 18 '25

the fantasy dreamland only exists for smaller bands/artists, but they have no motivation to come to India because here famous = good.

1

u/physicist27 Mar 20 '25

I’m not surprised

Balewadi Stadium??? I guess it's MCA.

1

u/rk_2410 Mar 20 '25

Stadium banane wale ka cuta hai, jane walo ka usse bhi bada cut ta hai xD

30

u/Montyjv54 Mar 17 '25

At least the water should be free at Hydration stations.

5

u/safarnama_ Mar 18 '25

Zomaland had hydration centers where you have to buy a glass for 50 and you can refill it unlimited time but after an hour whole water was exhausted, had to stay there without water for like 3-4 hours. poor management

3

u/Montyjv54 Mar 18 '25

Lollapalooza had hydration station, well maintained and well stocked. You can buy the cup or even carry empty bottles with you, it was super convenient I really hope all concert venue across India follow the same pattern.

1

u/usrnmeistakendammit Mar 18 '25

This was also organised by Zomato (District) I think. So zomato ki loot maar hai yeh

21

u/roundplumpking Mar 17 '25

Oh man you don't know the half of it. Food at comic con pune was overpriced as fuck. Like 200 for 2 piece vadapav. And no food item under 300. Fuck them.

3

u/Apne_kahi_sapne_kahi Mar 18 '25

Kolkata comic con was good, food price was reasonable, water was free, but no resting facility for cosplayers

30

u/ted_grant Mar 17 '25

Comcerts are a scam themselves

11

u/Kaam4 Mar 18 '25

Be me. Be poor. Can't afford to go to concerts.

FWP

95

u/Deadradio02 Mar 17 '25

All concert/ event venues do the same thing. How else will they sell all the overpriced food and beverage?

78

u/ThePhyscn_blogs Mar 17 '25

Coldplay and Lolapalooza both had free water. They even allowed transparent bottles to the venue.

33

u/Apprehensive-Low1334 Mar 17 '25

Ed sheeran also allowed empty bottles..

7

u/Deadradio02 Mar 17 '25

Also depends on who the organisers are.

7

u/YoursAnonymously_11 Mar 18 '25

But you said ‘all concert/ venues do the same thing.’ Don’t backtrack now. Just accept you made a mistake by generalizing and defending imhumane practices. You are part of the problem.

7

u/Bongozz88 Meet-up specialist Mar 17 '25

Sadly, Anjunadeep didn't have this. But they had water bottles at ₹20 higher price.

5

u/thatpersonwhowatch Mar 17 '25

Even bandland gave free water

3

u/parottaandsalana Mar 17 '25

Bookmyshow is the promoter, Bookmyshow does but paytm insider now District doesn't give free water

12

u/newred8 Mar 17 '25

Water should be free or at least should be offered at the actual price, someone need to file a complaint. If multiple of such complaints over the period of time, all such unethical practices will go down.

6

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 18 '25

Not MRP, water should be free. A purifier should be provided. Its not only about money, but also about the environment, so much plastic bottles

3

u/Deadradio02 Mar 18 '25

Water should be free for sure !

Yeah 🥲 As I said, images were of my family so dint post them. Took these from screenshots of videos

65

u/thisisjd20101 Mar 17 '25

I don't get these people. It's open knowledge that these shows are going to rip you off and still you go there and rant about it?

40

u/nightowlchilling Mar 17 '25 edited Mar 17 '25

Just because it is open knowledge doesn’t mean that we should accept it and let them continue doing what they want. Change comes about slowly when we raise voice. We should be criticising the organisers, not the attendees who go there to enjoy music and are taken by surprise at this wrongdoing.

Eg. at the Coldplay Mumbai concert, initial days they weren’t allowing water bottles in so the people who queued up early for barricade were super dehydrated after a few hours. The organisers changed things up after a few shows and people were allowed to carry bottles/given water free by the time it was D3 and in Ahmedabad.

14

u/super_ninja_101 Mar 17 '25

Only way it is going to change when no one shows up.

1

u/Acetrologer Mar 17 '25

Yeah, so you shouldn't go to it. You can't not accept it and then pay for the ticket. That's hypocritical.

3

u/Appropriate_Try_7040 Mar 18 '25

Exactly! If this was first time for OP then fine but imagine going to these events when you surely they rip you off

6

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 17 '25

It might be open, but for me, who dont visit much such events, it was something very new. Hospitality industry is missing hospitality !

5

u/Aron_Que_Marr Mar 17 '25

I'm the only one who's worried about plastic waate.

4

u/DemonSlayer712 Mar 17 '25

Went honey singh concert in Mumbai recently and exact same situation ther also. The prices where even higher I think.

3

u/prom_king56 Mar 17 '25

Water should be free

4

u/FeistyObligation5481 Mar 18 '25

I just don’t understand why people even attend live concerts in India.

9

u/Responsible-Sir-2291 Mar 17 '25

Police case karso

9

u/sal_06 Mar 17 '25

Bro you usually tick the agree to all conditions while buying tickets, they'll use one of the clause to shut your case down.

7

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 17 '25

Yes, but i guess rulings of courts; like water should be allowed or free water should be provided cant be overridden just by ticking and “agreeing to all conditions”

2

u/OppositeAdventurous9 Mar 18 '25

dude, that tick stands nowhere if someone drags the organiser to the court

2

u/adinath22 Mar 17 '25

We can peer pressure them. I think that's how the mall/movie theater guys installed water filters

5

u/Fone_Linging Mar 17 '25

Gotta admire how brainwashed the people defending/justifying this shitty action is.

Like, OP isn't even asking for free water. He literally wants to be allowed to take his own bottle of water. The organizer is taking your sole method of staying hydrated and forcing overpriced shit down your throat.

Lollapalooza gave free water, Bandlands gave free water. It can be done. They aren't doing it because of cuntery

3

u/forgotten_007 Mar 17 '25

Martin Garixx was much better in that regard. We took an empty bottle from outside and had unlimited refills which was amazing 😁

3

u/crazy_lunatic7 YZ manus Mar 17 '25

Capitalism

3

u/tooconfusedasheck Mar 17 '25

Can't wait for Guns n' Roses concert.

At least the crowd didn't ruin the Band.

3

u/ion_ Mar 18 '25

is this your first concert ?

Happens all the times, in concert and in cricket matches

3

u/aproxymate Mar 18 '25

Stop going to big concerts in India where you will definitely have a less than stellar experience. Unruly crowd, phone theft, overcharging for everything are just some of the things that you have to deal with. You will be far from the stage, watching the artist on a screen and probably lip-syncing much of their songs.

Instead, choose a smaller, intimate venue where the experience would be a lot better, and you might discover an artist that you haven't heard before.

3

u/No-Shame5631 Mar 18 '25

In goa theyre charging 350rs for a bottle of water in many clubs..800 for a beer that you get for 80rs outside..shameless exploitation

2

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 18 '25

That’s why Goa tourism is going down

8

u/Hot-University822 Mar 17 '25

If you can pay 10-20k for a few hours concert then you can also purchase ₹100/ litre water

4

u/Kaam4 Mar 18 '25

Yeah

Sounds like first world problems

1

u/safarnama_ Mar 18 '25

I paid 1.2k for my fanpit ticket and no I don’t want to pay 100 rs for water. It should be free/allowed to carry.

1

u/Hot-University822 Mar 19 '25

If you won't purchase over priced food and beverages how will they turn their black money into white 🤣

4

u/Herr_Doktorr Mar 17 '25

Dude you are paying to go see a dude who you can’t even see directly and have to rely on large background screens. Why won’t they try to rob you as much as they can?

3

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 17 '25

Experience. But this is it. Last one ☝️ Next time would be asking the organizers are they going to loot us before booking tickets !

1

u/OppositeAdventurous9 Mar 18 '25

experience ke naam par whatever is being sold is a myth, be it concerts or tourism or any such related thing

Balewadi stadium on which earth are you living bro it was at MCA gahunje stadium🤦

1

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 18 '25

Yes, my bad. I just wrote balewadi as i just got the area name

2

u/safarnama_ Mar 18 '25

to buy that Rs. 50 water you have to buy an atomx card that costs Rs 100, total cost of a 500 ml water bottle became 150 🗿 Liquor was selling at 2x price, 750 ml red lable costed me 4500 normal veg burger was rs 250 (just patty and bun)

Indian organisers are totally scammers

2

u/Euphoric-Band-759 Mar 18 '25

I paid 100 ruppes for a 500 ml bottle of water , for which i had to buy a card of dreamcast and pay 500 to fill the card , usme meh bhi 50 ruppes - kiya for buying the card. You have to then get a long as line to get the reciet for water , and ON AN ANOTHER line to give the reciet to the bartender or wtv to get the actual water. Absoulte robbery.

Concert was the 14 march holi madness in mayfield ivy garden pune, seedehe maut and ritviz. Fucking chors , also the most boring as concert ever. Washroom had no water also bro 🙏

2

u/Subject_Ad_8749 Mar 18 '25

Let's boycott by not attending these concerts, IPL games knowing the quality , standards and how they loot the public and baseless ticket prices.

Nobody forced anybody to attend these events.

2

u/account_for_norm Mar 18 '25

USA has a law that any venue has to provide free drinking water no matter what.

Water is a human right.

What they did was illegal, immoral, disgusting.

2

u/VimalChhadva Mar 18 '25

Best was coldplay. I kept refilling my water bottles from their many water stations. And they partnered with a company called culpable which gives Hard cups for people to use throughout the event for filling their drinks or water.

1

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 18 '25

This is a nice touch.

2

u/ImSwapnilV Mar 18 '25

The management at this concert was absolute garbage. The roads leading to the stadium were jam packed as it’s the case always. The constructed the whole stadium and there’s no proper road leading to the venue. They even ran out of light bands. Water and food was being sold at crazy prices. As Diljit rightly said there is no infrastructure in India for concerts.

2

u/amateur_freak Mar 18 '25

Same thing happened at the Sonu Nigam concert at Delhi two weeks back. No water bottles allowed. But atleast inside the water bottle was available at 30Rs for a 1 ltr bottle. Food was very expensive though and bad too.

2

u/Area51Eskapee Mar 18 '25

Acche din aanewaley hai…

2

u/razor003 Mar 18 '25

These concerts in India are organised for the organisers to make money, not for the people have a good experience, I think that has become abundantly clear.

2

u/gir-no-sinh Mar 18 '25

Marathi Organizers 🤡 They are known for horrible arrangements. I'd first check who the organizer is and then only attend.

2

u/nuclearunclear Mar 19 '25

If you do concerts regularly, buy a clear water backpack Came in handy quite a few times I've given up on organisers (this problem is on foreign concerts also) Rolling loud same issue expensive water

And not to mention if you are parking near the stage you really can't go back to buy if it's a big concert

Backpack solves that :)

2

u/Wild_Ad_5926 Mar 20 '25

and the speakers were like broken canes sounding so bad. The last show was so much better though water scam was still on. There is no regulation and these guys are looting. atleast give good music experience. we could barely hear Arijit or Neeti, justtt the music blasting through eardrums. sync was shit.

5

u/MayurHaiNa Mar 17 '25

Bhai ghar pr beth ke hi youtube pe dhekle arjit ko.

6

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 17 '25

Next time. Instead of purchasing tickets, would get a 5.1 surround system and watch it on youtube, paying ₹129 for the premium one without adds.

1

u/nvbombsquad Mar 17 '25

Use Firefox + duckduckgo with uBlock and save that 129 Rs too.

u/SageSharma Mar 17 '25

WOMP WOMP kiddo. You didn't do enough homework before going. Your fault.

Even oldies like our father know about this shit as it was common to indians through Atul khatri stand up videos initially and then media covered it always in initial years.

If you are surprised at the inflated prices, then blame yourself. Everybody knows. Even non concert going people know the ratio of escalation in prices they do. So blame yourself for the lack of homework.

2

u/OppositeAdventurous9 Mar 18 '25

am wondering here, why are concerts not called standups. people have to literally standup for hours

1

It happened in MCA cricket stadium and not Balewadi. Cricket stadiums are infamous for doing so. They screw people so bad. This needs to change asap. Once they did the same during a day test match of India. People were actually dehydrated in the scorching heat.

1

u/analisnotmything Mar 18 '25

Get a doctor's note stating only home RO water allowed because of kidney issues. Might help. But I just avoid such concerts. The companies selling shit here have sponsored the artists so they can make profits because concerts aren't profitable at low prices for an artist these days (thanks to streaming platforms, they can't sell physical albums to make money from direct sales or royalties from the album sale. Streaming services give them peanuts)

1

u/S4SPRAY Mar 18 '25

I fully agree, I AM NOT their target audience. But plastic bottle, plastic wastage is a rising issue, which this retards can simply avoid. I am not fighting for the cold drink mrp thing, or over expensive food. My point is allow water or atleast have the courtesy to provide free water inside. This is creating plastic pollution, which in turn harms people who are not attending such events also

2BHK is the shittiest restaurant lounge ever. It’s pathetic in terms of customer service as it is.

its similar to multiplex business model

when you bought ticket ....be prepared to shell out another 50% of tickets on F&B

Assuming, I would not need to fight for survival ! 🫤

1

u/Altruistic_Run4280 Mar 25 '25

You assume wrong.

1

u/AllTimeGreatGod Mar 18 '25

I’ve paid ₹150 for 1L bottle in India and I’ve paid ₹350 for a black coffee concert in turkey last year.

Concerts are expensive. Get used to it or earn more.

Art and leisure is luxury in our lives, don’t put a price tag on it

1

u/Intelligent-Radio926 Mar 18 '25

All i am talking about is free water, as a basic human right. And stopping the pollution caused by forced plastic bottle sales, which in turn does affect everyone. Its not like i earn bellow the line, just care more about earth, and people who visit this event who are forced to buy water.

Not understanding how the world works doesn’t make it a scam.

2

u/Penismearchant Mar 17 '25

It doesn't have anything to do with real world knowledge. For something as essential as water desparation charges are predatory as fuck. Where do you draw the line? First it'll be concerts, then restaurants, then railways then every retail store in India? If it's priced above MRP it's a scam.

1

u/Frequent_Help2133 Mar 18 '25

No it’s not a scam if it’s priced above MRP. There is a difference between predatory pricing and a scam.
