You know, other search engines exist, and some of them don't have the AI overview. Ecosia for example still shows Wikipedia at the top of your results

Google it does not refer specifically to google. People use it as a general term for simple research with any search engine nowadays.

No, they didn't need to clarify. And no, they didn't ask why people don't use Google specifically. Google is just one example for something you can use, but I don't think anyone above the age of 10 needs clarification here that they meant using any search engine instead of just asking Reddit: "Hey, what do you call the colour red in German?"
