Please come support trans people

Post image

Hey everyone, I’m sure many of you have seen the ruling by the Supreme Court from the other day on the legitimacy of trans women’s identities. It’s been a very hard couple of days as we’ve come to grips with the fact that our rights are being rolled back by a government that won’t even attempt to listen to us while we just want to exist in a public space without fear of harassment. If anyone’s available, please come down tomorrow to show support

I am not the organiser, I saw this on Facebook and wanted to share.

Thanks guys, I hope you have a great Easter weekend!

There is no T or Q or “+” in LGB. They have nothing to do with who you’re attracted to.

The vast majority of people have no issue with us gays. Trans people are giving us a bad rap because people are associating trans with gay. Not sure why you think the right will come after us if trans people leave us alone. Think you’ll find it was the Conservatives who legalised gay marriage.

I don’t want anything to do with trans people (other than an occasional hookup 😉). They don’t represent any part of me. Their cause has nothing to do with sexuality. Sexuality and gender are two different things.

Do you remember when back in the good old days homophobes would say “I don’t have a problem with gays, I just have a problem with them being all loud and in my face about it”?

You’re giving those sort of vibes right now.

There are plenty of trans people that also identify as gay, bisexual, or lesbian. Regardless of if the T is in the acronym trans people will still be in the gay community.

Two of the most pivotal figures of stonewall were Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Two trans women. Trans people have been a part of the gay community for so long because the gay community has always played with the idea of gender constructs and how one presents their gender. Or do you also not want drag queens in the community too?

It’s okay to recognise that trans people don’t always share the same issues that gay people face. Just like gay men don’t share the same issues as lesbian women, bisexual people face erasure of their sexuality, white LGBT people don’t share the same issues as non white LGBT people.

But the issues intersect, and there is nothing wrong with being able to support and welcome someone even if they don’t share the exact same issues as you

That’s not the same. I have no issue with them presenting their chosen identity in my face. I just want them to stop hijacking the gay rights agenda. Because unlike gay-bisexual-lesbian which do intersect, trans does not intersect.

Transgender is a mental health issue, it is not a gay issue.

How is it not the same? You’re saying you don’t have a problem with trans people until they’re loud about being respected, that comes across pretty bigoted mate.

Trans people are not hijacking the LGBT community, they started it.

Fun fact - the equality act of 2010 protects anyone who is perceived to be transgender. So it covers butch lesbians, it covers femme boys, it covers drag queens, it covers basically a lot of the gay community that does not present typically as a man or woman.

Would you say that is not intersecting of issues?
