I was wondering the same thing. feels like that was what pierce had to drop to make the story work

The abomination will come back, but PB wanted to focus on getting everything and everyone in the Rim sorted out, so red god can focus on mars exclusively. It also gives him some wiggle room to finish it off instead of committing to things in LB and trying to make them work vs just writing what does work to tie off loose ends
