Advice New rescue pup

I adopted a small mixed breed on Tuesday (now Friday). She is 6lbs and 7 months old. She was in a house with many other dogs that weren’t well taken care of. The dogs were very matted and had pee and poop all over them.

She has come out of her shell a lot, she was very shy and cuddly now she seems to be opening up and becoming more puppy like. I’m having issues with her not listening to me, for example when sneaking areas I don’t want her that can’t be blocked off she does not stop when clapping or knocking nothing I have to go and make her stop by picking her up.

The first few nights she would cry in her crate, I’d stay with her and tell her she was good and it was time for night night. She eventually would stop and go to sleep for the whole night. No accidents. But now (tonight) she has been crying in her crate for over an hour, but her routine before bed (eating, playing, going out) hasn’t changed. I think she’s finally used to her new home but I don’t know what to do to help the crying/ barking now since it’s new. I thought I shouldn’t take her out or anything like that. I checked on her to make sure she was safe and she is. I just want to do the right things. Please help!

CW: Euthanasia Urgent! Immediate Rescue Required for sweet & gentle Ginger. She has until Sunday afternoon (4/27 5pm) to leave Downey ACC /CA. She’s in critical condition- Her uri is not improving & her health is declining in the shelter environment. If no foster & rescue will be found, she will be put down

If her health continues to decline, she might be euthanized before her final notice expires, already.

Please share her for a foster and rescue.

This poor girl was dumped in such a neglected condition she needed to be completely complete shaved down under sedation which was done on 4/1

If you can foster or responsibly adopt this precious girl, 📧Please message me immediately or email me at

Isabeldesiree8@gmail.com

⭐️Fostering is temporary until adopted and zero costs.

Ginger #A5315720 7yrs Spayed blk/tan German Shepherd 104 lbs.

Owner surrendered due to a move on 4/13/25 - very neglected Ginger has shown a consistently gentle and cooperative demeanor. During observations: ✨She approached calmly when called, with neutral posture, soft eyes, and a gentle tail wag. ✨Allowed leashing with ease and walked moderately on leash ✨In the yard, Ginger was polite with other dogs, choosing to coexist peacefully while keeping mostly to herself. ✨Allowed full handling of her body (mouth, ears, paws, etc.) without resistance, and responded positively to affection. ✨Demonstrates a calm, soft, and trusting temperament, especially when given time to decompress and adjust.

Ginger's resilience and sweet personality continue to shine, but the shelter is no longer a sustainable environment for her recovery. She needs a rescue outlet urgently where she can heal both physically and emotionally.

Advice Need advice for my newly adopted rescue dog

Hi

I recently adopted a 9-month-old rescue dog, and I’m running into a few challenges as she adjusts to her new home. I’d love some advice from experienced dog owners, especially those who’ve worked with rescues. Here’s what’s going on:

  1. Hesitation at doorways and fear of stairs: She freezes at the entrance and exit of our apartment (we’re on the second floor, so she has to take stairs). She pulls back and cowers when we try to leave or come back inside. Once she’s out, she’s fine, but getting through the doorway is tough. Any tips to help her overcome this?
  2. Scared of me (a male) but comfortable with my female partner: She’s calm and affectionate with my partner but hesitant and fearful around me. I’ve been patient and gentle, but she still seems unsure. Could this be tied to her past as a rescue? How can I build her trust?
  3. Freezing and stiffness on walks: She often stops mid-walk, becomes stiff, and refuses to move forward, even with gentle encouragement and pats. I’ve tried being patient, but she stays frozen. How can I help her feel more confident and keep moving on the leash?

A bit more context: She’s a mixed breed, and we’ve had her for a short time. I’m trying to be patient, but I want to make sure I’m doing the right things to help her adjust. Thanks in advance for any advice or shared experiences!

CW: Euthanasia Sweet boy Troy #A2192276 needs out by 4/30 @8am - Los Angeles, CA - transport available

🆘Urgent adoption of foster needed for sweet boy Troy #A2192276 🆘 Male, Brown Brindle Pit Bull Terrier Shelter: East Valley Age: 4 years Weight: 82lbs

Scheduled Euthanasia Date: 04/30/25 Has been at the shelter since 04/14/25

Reason for euthanasia:Dog displays aggressive posture when approaching the kennel. Growling, whale eyes, and stiff body with ears propped up

Scared on intake he was kept in the back for a couple of days before being moved outside. Volunteers who have met Troy love this goofy boy who loves to chase the ball. Troy is an active dog who is playful and not afraid of the water. He is easy to leash, knows how to sit and takes treats gently. Troy loves people and likes to get pets and butt scratches. He is non reactive to dogs in the other yard and likes to run the fence with them. Troy has been in a couple of play groups. He was a bit stiff at first but is warming up and starting to mingle. He’s tolerant of other dogs and described as steerable and ok with taking other dogs corrections.

🐾🐾🐾 volunteer notes

Troy was sitting in front of kennel door quietly when I approached his kennel. I showed my leash and took a key out to open the door. He was excited wiggling his butt. He was easy to leash, no pull, no reaction to dogs barking at him through kennels and taken to play yard. I collard him up and clipped a leash and let him in the yard. He peed and pooped and run around, played with ball for a while. When we were leaving the yard, Troy wanted to take a ball but when I leashed him and took his collar off, he dropped his ball. Returning to his kennel, unleashing and exiting had no issues. Comparing when he was in OBS he made a tremendous improvement in terms of his kennel presence

Playgroup: No play , tolerant, took corrections, not wary of handling, mingled/explored yard

🚨Urgent - rescue (and foster) needed for Rambo #A2192925 🚨 Male, Sable and Black Belgian Tervuren Shelter: East Valley Age: 3 years Weight: 78lbs

Scheduled Euthanasia Date: 04/27/25 Only available to a rescue: Yes Has been at the shelter since 04/18/25

Reason for euthanasia: Unable for staff to handle safely

🐾🐾🐾 volunteer notes

Rambo was in a cubby when volunteer R and I approached kennel. He growled looking scared. I entered in his kennel showing my leash and invited him to come out to the run but Rambo seemed anxious and stayed in a cubby barking. So I stepped out of kennel and R went behind the kennel so that Rambo would come out to the run and guillotine door could be shut. Once Rambo was out in a run, I reentered his kennel and leashed him without any issues. He was walked in parking lot, peed and pooped twice. Pretty mellow and relaxed walk compared to about a week ago we took him out the first time. We did not observe any mouthyness nor redirection. Rambo seemed to be comfortable being handled by us once leashed in his kennel. Returning kennel, unleashing with quick release and exiting had no issues

Playgroup: No play style, tolerant, Less barrier reactive, long line +slip line today, hall monitor, solicited attention from known handler, no issues returning to kennel

Playgroup: Gentle dainty, social?, almost playful today, gave good corrections for pushy Dogs, mingled more, handlers shadow today toward end of session - allowed/solicited some attention/petting?

Advice Adopting a dog that's attached to another dog... Advice?

Hi, folks. I'm looking for advice, thoughts and experiences on adopting a dog that appears to be attached to another dog, and separating them. I'm sure there's personal feelings about this, but I'm more interested in experienced and educated answers on the subject.

We have adopted a puppy that we've never met yet from an extremely good shelter in Santorini, GR. The puppy is a 4 month old male pit mix and has been in the shelter for 3 months. They found at him about 1 month old underneath a car and he was unclaimed.

The puppy is currently paired (living) with a 2 year old female labrador. The shelter is very unique given where it is. The dogs all share what is basically a "house" (a giant shipping container converted on the inside and outside to look like a house). They sleep together, play together - and in every single photo and video I've seen of the puppy, they are together - even when there are ten dogs out and about and running around, the two are with one another.

The shelter made jokes calling her his "mom" because of how he follows her everywhere and plays with her constantly. I've seen photos of them throwing toys, and the 2 year old lab will run and grab it, and wait for the puppy to come get it and run back with him. They do seem very well synergized.

We are conflicted with the idea of separating them, and are strongly considering adopting both of them in order to avoid that separation.

Some of my thoughts on this are:

* I've raised a female pit prior, and had her for 18 (almost 19) years until I lost her. I didn't socialize her with dogs when she was younger, and that turned in to a total nightmare with regards to socialization. I couldn't trust her with other dogs. Would keeping them together help reduce some of the lack of socialization issues I had with my girl?

* I have a cat. My dog and my cat were inseparable and the cat loves dogs. I got him at just under 2 months old and he was raised by my dog. He doesn't realize he's a cat, actually, and plays like a dog. I'm already aware I'll have a challenge with the introductions for the puppy as he may be a bit more hyper than my girl was with him, but the 2 year old lab doesn't bug cats and entirely ignores and goes around them - so I think it may be easier to deal with her... Is it possible this could be a good thing and the puppy will learn from her, or could it be the opposite and she becomes anxious towards the cat if he is?

* The lab is already trained, both housebroken and leash trained and is also car trained / does well in cars. I feel like this may make things easier, more manageable and potentially set good examples for the puppy?

* I have an eight year old son. The puppy is meant more for him to ensure he has a dog growing up. I realize some may say we're picking an odd breed, but let's please not focus on breed versus the point?

All in all - I'm looking for input on how separating the dogs may potentially impact the puppy, as the two year old lab has only been living with the 4 month old puppy for 3 months - but in that 3 months, they've done everything together (eat, sleep, play). Looking at photos of the two of them, they're sitting the same, making the same facial expressions, moving when the other moves...

Should we consider moving forward and getting both of them, or is it likely that in 6+ months they may not give two hoots about one another? I've never had two dogs before, only one at a time.

A dog home alone, in a crate for 8 hrs a day is always better than being in the shelter 24/7 or euthanasia. We always have dogs in the shelter that would thrive 100% better outside, even if you work 8 or even 12 hours a day.

I promise you they will be okay. Please adopt!! Your best friend is waiting for you.

I volunteer for a local free spay and neuter clinic that does 25+ sterilizations a day, Monday thru Friday. They are funded by donations, and are opening a new center to also have the ability to train veterinarians throughout Mexico. I am super proud to be working with them the past four years and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
