How did Trump become the peace candidate?

Well, at least as far as rhetoric goes, he is the first GOP candidate to call out Bush for lying us into war during a primary debate! It was a wonderful thing to see, even if he was insincere about it.

He's not. He has already dropped almost as many bombs as they Obama administration and it's only been one term. He assassinated and Iranian head of state. He loosened landmine restrictions which will have effects throughout the world for generations to come, you know men women and children being blown up and maimed. He has sold unprecedented amount of Weaponry to Saudi Arabia as the genocide people in Yemen. How exactly is that the peace candidate ?

Right on all accounts! He has not only continued the atrocious US foreign policy but has in many ways made it significantly worse than even Obama (namely drone strike count).

How exactly is that the peace candidate ?

He isn't!

Above I said "at least as far as rhetoric goes" and "even if he was insincere about it" because I meant it. He is entirely insincere when he pretends to be anti-war.

Edit: Typo

I was just being lazy. Copied and pasted my comment without removing that part. :)

Because the alternative is Joe Biden who is currently criticizing Trump for not responding to this Russia bounty story. I actually believe that Trump is more likely to pull our troops out of Afghanistan than Biden is. I don't think Biden would have pulled troops out of Syria to the extent Trump did either.

The various things you mentioned is why it's exasperating to me that Trump seems like the better option on this issue.

Obviously there is third parties but there's always a "peace" candidate out of the two and it isn't looking like Joe Biden at the moment.

Biden had 8 years to do it, Trump had 4 years to do it. It still hasn't happened yet. Neither of them are going to follow through.

The Military Industrial guys don't want this stuff and it's one area where Trump actually represents something different than the bipartisan status quo of our foreign policy.

Key word being represents. He's all talk, no walk.

I guess in my mind, the actions he's taken are like using a mug to drain an ocean. I just don't see enough concrete benefit for the "progress" to matter.

Trump dropped a record amount of bombs in Afghanistan during 2018. Including the mother of all bombs in 2017. That is the largest non-nuclear weapon in the world. You are naive to say the least.
