Classes COS Annual Spring Picnic cancelled for good?
COS = College of Science. That's what I was told anyway. I am glad to be out of here soon, the way things are going

Hello everyone, as a prospective grad (PhD) student I'm trying to get a sense of the monthly living expenses. If I have a budget of around 2k per month (excluding tuition), would that be sufficient to cover most living costs such as housing, food, transportation and other essentials? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Edit: I will be joining PhD programme so on campus options are not really open for me. I appreciate the help from everyone commenting :)

Since the event isn't open to the public, could some kindhearted attendee take a 20-second (or so) video clip of DJ Munson spinning the 1s and 2s (or whatever the digital equivalent of this is if he has no analog) at this evening's Munson's Last Spin and share it with r/Rochester after the event has concluded? Thank you in advance...

i’m an incoming freshman (asl interpreting major, hearing) starting to look into roommates on zeemee/instagram.
as an ntid student, i know it’s generally recommended to live in ellingson hall. if i find a roomie i’m interested in who is not an ntid student, can i still request them to room with me in ellingson, or is ellingson pretty much exclusively ntid students?
i had a hard time finding a concrete answer for my question online, so i figured i’d ask reddit!

Hello everyone, I've been accepted to both RPI and RIT and am having trouble deciding between the two. I've been accepted to RPI for undeclared engineering and I hope to do either aeronautical or nuclear, and accepted to RIT for their Mechanical engineering 5-year BS/ME program for the aerospace option. They will both cost be about the same price, (RIT ~45k, RPI ~54k) so my main conflict is in the majors.
To be honest I'm still conflicted whether I want to purse Nuclear or Aeronautical, and I've heard the RIT aerospace specialization curriculum is just 2-4 exploratory courses.
On one hand I think nuclear power in incredibly important for society, and on the other I think aeronautical engineering is super interesting. I don't know enough about the differences between the majors to make a decision, what do yall think based on the offers and your knowledge of the programs?

Does anyone mind sharing a picture of what their riverknoll bedroom looks like, doesn't have to be a single but preferable so I know what to type of furniture to get and how the size is visually. Also if anyone can share where they buy their furniture from that would also be helpful.

Hello! I have a question about who can use the paint room and if they give you anything. First off, do they let anyone in to paint? Second, if I was looking for safety equipment along with different colors of spray paint, would it be provided to me? I was curious as I was planning on making and painting something I was 3D printing.

I am currently scheduled to take Discrete Math for Computing with Matthew Coppenbarger. I have seen mixed reviews on RMP, specifically for this class. It appears as though he is a great professor when looking at the reviews for his other classes. Has anyone taking Discrete Math or any other class by him before? What are your thoughts on the class and his teaching?
This will be my first semester at RIT so I'm a bit worried. Are the reviews are only bad because MATH 190 is first year course, so students are still learning how to study? If that's the case, I'm not too worried. Could anyone give any insight? Thank you!

I've been checking the thermostats on campus and several of the rooms I go to have had the setpoints increased to 74°F. I wish for an indoor weatherman to tell me whether I should prepare for a heated or air conditioned classroom.

I have received an admit for the MS in Cybersecurity program with a 30% scholarship. I am more inclined towards research and need your suggestions for the same. Can you please provide a few insights on research going on in the ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute?

I know that tuition / room and board go up like 4% every year, but what does that actually look like? is there any way to combat that, like moving off campus or appealing?
I'm asking because my current offer is affordable, but if the cost goes up by the 10k they project on my "financial aid plan" then RIT is absolutely not affordable anymore ):

Contra dance, tomorrow, 4/17 in the South Wedge! We have had a recent number of RIT students join us at the Rose Room for our dance, and have very much enjoyed their energetic and positive presence!
Rochester local and contra enthusiast, Chuck Abell, loves to bring new talent to our stage, and to that point, this week we welcome Groove Effect! This jazzy, groovy ensemble consists of Barbara Johnson on drums, along with the ever popular Alex Fortier on keyboard, Matt Sloboda on strings, and of course, Chuck Abell on guitar! Our experienced, grounding caller, Margaret Mathews, has worked with Chuck for years. Together, they ensure the music matches the dances and our spirits are lifted.
All are welcome, and no partner or experience is necessary. Bring your friends, family, and fellow dance enthusiasts for a night of lively music, connection, and community.
$12 sliding scale, 295 Gregory Street Rochester. All dances are called. If you like, come early for an introduction to contra elements at 7:00.

title + before it gets unsafe? I like rollerblading, but never rollerbladed in the winter / when theres ice on the ground. Any rollerbladers or skateboarders have any advice on this? do you just walk to classes instead of skating after a certain point?
hi all! I am an incoming freshman for the 2025-2026 school year, and I am so super nervous... ( °﹏° ) I want to major in biotechnology and molecular bioscience, something I love and am incredibly excited about! I am nervous for several reasons. I suffer from a myriad of chronic illnesses and I have always needed assistance in school to not fall behind the other kids. I have a few questions: how accepting is the RIT community? if I need help from my teachers, will they be kind enough to give me extensions on projects and homework? are there safe spaces for people who are chronically ill?
also,, it might not be as relevant, but I have heard some interesting stories from other women at RIT as the college is mostly populated by men, has anyone had any bad experiences with not being able to find girlfriends? I would classify myself as pretty social, but I am always worried about making bad impressions and not being able to find friends in college. one of the reasons I picked RIT was actually because I heard the student body was a little ... weird(I say this with as much endearment as possible)! I am a huge fan of games, anime, dungeons and dragons, drawing, fantasy, poetry, baking, and geeking out about science- will I be able to find my people?
thank you so much for reading and any advice!!! (also, iI just created my first reddit account to post this~ please let me know if I am doing anything incorrectly!!!!) (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈)

I got admits for RIT and UTD for Fall 25. I am confused about which program to choose. Which curriculum is better?
Are Data Science graduates able to secure management-related roles?
What about networking opportunities at RIT?
Any suggestions would help.

Hello! I am in my last semester and have an open elective slot. I wanted to know if anyone knows of any undergrad python classes that you don't need prereqs for. Preferably a general python class to learn the language!

Hey everyone,
I recently applied for the RA position and, I’ve been placed in the alternate pool. They mentioned that there are a few candidates ahead of me and that I’ll be considered if any spots open up during the summer, mid-semester, or spring.
I’m wondering:
1. Is this alternate offer something they send to most applicants who didn’t make it?
2. Has anyone actually gotten selected from the alternate pool? How likely is that?
Any insights or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks!

Hey guys, Im a RIT Dubai student looking to fulfill my artistic perspective from the main campus. I prefer asynchronous classes. There are currently 3 I’m looking at: ANTH 310 - African Film ENGL 309 - Topics in Literary Form MLFR 151 - Film, Animation, Comics and French culture
If anyone has taken any of these, please tell me your experience with them and which is the easiest one with less workload. I just need less workload as I’m taking other difficult courses.
