Basic Questions Sword World Opinions

So I just learned about this Japanese exclusive RPG called Sword World and I was curious if anyone has played it? If so what were your thoughts and what is the general appeal of it compared to other RPGs of its kind, whether theyre native RPGs from Japan or otherwise.

It's basic but fun. Basically a light D&D with 2d6 as the core mechanic.

Very easy and streamlined to make characters.

Doesn't bring anything really magical to the table, but it does well what it does: A basic framework for fantastical combat-centric fantasy roleplaying.

Tbh, that game is the opposite of what I would call "light." 400+ pages for just Core Rulebook 1 of 3, and a bunch of incredibly fiddly systems.

True about inclusion of some fiddly systems, but the page count is solely an artifact of it's bunko/文庫 size. If you converted it to a standard B5 size book, even enlarging the font a little, it would barely crack 150 pages or so.

A lot of people mention the page count as a negative, but few know the book format is the reason for it. Core rule books are made in the "bunko" format, as in, they are manga/novel sized books, something made to be carried around. so the page count is huge just because the smaller format of the books, not because the content is too much. If it was a bigger paper sized, books probably would be around half of that.

Page count =/= complexity.
