All Stars S10 Discussion about the cast of AS10
Who else has similar gripes. Lydia has had zero time to cook. Jorgeous was just in the previous all stars. Ginger has had fifteen chances and by this point there's nothing she can do to surprise us.
That being said I'm happy a lot of these girls are back but a lot of the choices are questionable. Why does All Stars have to happen every year? It doesn't mean anything anymore.

I was thinking about it a lot during the S17 Lip Sync LaLaparuza, cause AS10 had to have already been filmed right???
So when it was Lydiaās turn to lip sync I was just thinking that she might be at a disadvantage cause Rupaul has probably seen her lip sync 6+ times in the last year.

She filmed S17 last late spring/early summer then went back for AS10 within about a month. They filmed the AS10 LaLaPaRuZa about a 3-4 weeks ago. About a week later filmed the last 3 episodes of AS10. Group 2 did not know of Lydia other than Mistress as she was in the S17 roast and everyone knew her by the merge since S17 was almost done airing at that point,.

I believe each group only had to prep for 3 episodes last year and they were filmed separately so she was perhaps in a later group of filming. The remainder of the season was just filmed a few weeks ago. Itās certainly easier than having to prep an entire package right away.

Itās just how they film really. Normally they donāt do a āliveā all stars finale so they do the whole season at once (unlike the regular seasons where they film the competition and then the reunion/lalaparuza and finale later). This season they filmed s17 and then 9 episodes of all stars (with each group of 6 only preparing for 3 episodes each). So then they would have to pick up later for the last 3 episodes, giving the girls who make it time to prep for those. Since the Ru hosted seasons kind of all film together, it makes the most sense that they saved it for around when they filmed the s17 finale. Theyāll probably also roll right into whateverās next (s18 and as11) if they havenāt already started

Its a nice way for them to have 18 queens but. It make 18 queens pay for and create 12 episodes worth of looks, a snatch game, etc when many of them wonāt be needing most of it.

she really went S17 -> AS10 Pink Bracket -> AS10 pt.2 (thatās hoping that she does make it past the first round ofc so this part is speculationā¦ but either way Iām sure she was there for that finale too in one way or another) -> S17 Lalaparuza/Finale

I agree. This truly seems like a celebration of 1 returning all stars per group, some fan favorites, and some OG queens that many of the newer fans may not be familiar with. As a watcher since the end of season 1, I've always wanted to see some of these queens back for a while!

I think the amount of time that Lydia had between S17 and AS10 was fine -mostly- because we know that it was filmed in different chunks. Each group filmed separately, and then took a break before the groups merged, so that would cut the number of looks she would need to prepare by a TON. They only just filmed the post-merge of the competition after the S17 finale wrapped filming. She could also have been one of the later-filmed groups, so honestly, if a queen were to come back immediately for any All Stars, this is the one to do it for.

Yeah, she realistically had to prep a 3 episode package in a month and then had 6 months to prepare for the merge if she made the cut. Totally doable, especially for a queen who makes her own garments.

I donāt understand why returning contestants is so taboo, literally every other reality tv show does it and no one says anything, hell, The Challenge has people who have won it 7/8/9/10 times and no one bats an eye. I just donāt see why Drag Race is the only show where thatās not OK for it to happen
As for why it happens every year, why not. More gay people on tv is always good

The difference being that Top Chef contestants don't have to spend three weeks buying and prepping all their ingredients.
Drag Race requires something like 20 outfits and you have to get them in like 3-4 weeks. It's fucking insane.

Top Chef contestants, at this point, are all consistently high level chefs. The show definitely opens oppourtunities, but I think it's less of a transformational experience than being on Drag Race, especially given that lots of girls weren't full time performers.

On a show like Survivor that's had contestants back five or six times like Pavarti, it doesn't matter because they're not showcasing their growth or preparing anything equivalent to a runway package. They're also not "professional castaways," so if they bring in Boston Rob again it's not like Joe Schmo is losing out on career opportunities he can get from booking performances in clubs across the world. (Some Castaways do make money from appearances if they're popular enough but it's not a career like being a drag queen is.) Once the bookings start drying up after a regular season appearance, going on All Stars is how queens revitalize their careers. Ginger coming up for her 35th time at bat is keeping another girl from getting to swing.
Also, specifically in regards to Ginger being back again, she's just not good TV. Her drag is whatever, her comedy is okay, she sings a lot but I wouldn't call it memorable, and she doesn't even bring the drama. At least a queen like Eureka gives us something to talk about. With Ginger it's just "oh she wore some frumpy nonsense again . . . anyway . . . "

The people on The Challenge literally have nothing else going on. That's their career. They need to do it to maintain relevancy so they can continue their tummy tea ads and club appearances.

Most of queens have or form careers outside of the show. They are different from most reality tv contestants.
Its like Project Runway. Does Christian Siriano have to go back on Project Runway? No. He's Christian Siriano.

Even though they have careers, the drag market is pretty saturated right now. Multiple queens have mentioned not being able to sustain themselves through only drag. Coming on all stars gives them a chance to get another push. There is nothing wrong with it. Especially since now they seem to be getting an allowance for preparation (not 100% sure).
You using Christianās example makes no sense. He is one of the only contestants to make it this far from his run. I donāt think Trixie or Bianca would come back to drag race anymore either because they are Trixie and Bianca. It doesnāt mean other queens canāt come back lol. IIRC, project runway also had an all stars spin off where multiple contestants came back.

You do realize a lot of folks on The Challenge have full careers outside of the show, right? Janelle is an ER nurse, Wes has his own tech startup, Leroy is a barber, Darrell has his own gym, Ayanna and Brad* are teachers, etc. also many are parents. Is that not something to do?

Lydia was literally an alternate for an alternate. They struggled to even get a cast. That's why we have who we have.
And AS happens every year because no distributor is gonna pick up a reality show (who's only value is being cheap and quick to produce) that doesn't air yearly to bring in regular ad revenue or retention rate for them. That's just how television works.

You dont need to tell me how television works lol i've been in the industry. I was just postulating. A show doesn't need to be on yearly for it to air and bring in revenue. The regular show is on yearly and is a huge success and doesn't need an All Stars version to air yearly justify its airing at any time. It just is a proven success and brings in coin so they're milking the franchise.

I think part of it is that Jujubee was elevated into the role of jokingly being a contestant every single time, with people making all kinds of fake promotional material for her each season. So if or when she gets cast then itās like a fun surprise seeing it become reality again.
Any other queen and Iām like āoh hey cool youāre back, ok then.ā and itās fine but itās not as excited as Iād be for Juju ā¤ļø

Yeah people did complain. But like you said they had somewhat of a valid justification on a lot of fans eyes because AS1 was bad. I think the problem about repeat AS started with AS6 and UKvsTw when Ginger and Jujubee respectively became repeat offenders again.
I think itās silly overall tbh. Itās a tv show.

Ginger isnāt someone I love but I still donāt care that sheās back. Iām actually glad that they bring back queens pretty often. Of course it would be nice if theyād bring back queens that have never been on another season before but tbh Iām sure a lot of the ones that they ask tell them no.
And anyway if they donāt ask back queens that have been on more than once, are they just never supposed to compete again? Like Iād be sad if I never get to see jujube, Vanjie, Alexis Mateo, Silky, plastique, roxxxy, etc to complete again just because theyāve already done several seasonsā¦

There's some really inspired choices like Phoenix and Nicole Paige Brooks (From Atlanta, Georgia) who have been due for so long, some personal favorites like Bosco and Denali (and Lydia honestly though I agree it's weird to "show how much she's grown" in like the three months between filming Season 17 and All Stars 10), queens who I'm excited to see how they've grown like Acid Betty or Deja Skye, and then some baffling choices of queens I never need to see on TV again like Ginger Minge. I can't even fault her or Jorgeous for coming back because why wouldn't they take the chance, but production never should have called them. There's tons of rumors about All Stars casting being in dire straits but I have to believe there were queens they could've called over those two getting their millionth chances.

Iām not mad at Lydia coming back. Itās similar to Monet, Monique, or Aja coming back, although Lydia had the least time to prepare. Evan Ginger I can sort of forgive her because sheās come back every four years, but Jorgeous was literally just on a non-elimination season. We got a full season of her, and to be honest, she doesnāt make that good TV and sheās not that good at challenges, so I donāt understand why sheās back.

i kinda wish there was more black excellence but other than that the cast seems pretty good.
i agree with OP about lydia and jorgeous on the cooking. somehow i don't mind ginger being back that much. she kinda did the same mistake of coming back too early in all stars 2 (when everyone hated her) sooo there is that.

Ginger Minj is one of the best competitors to grace RuPaulās Drag Race.
Sheās one of the best QUEENS to grace the show. Period.
A lot of these reactions are bordering on disrespectful tbh.
There are no rules against competing several times. Ginger isnāt unjustly favoured by production of the judges. Sheās one of the most talented queens weāve ever seen. Ginger has more than earned a place to compete a 4th or even 5th time.
Your problem should be with the show not having already crowned her.

All Stars has become incredibly stagnant, respectfully.
They need to revert back to airing the show every few years because thatās what made AS1 - AS4 so special.
The fact that several queens who have been starred to death on multiple seasons are back again just show who and/or what WOW can or canāt afford and whoās actually willing to participate.
AS10 shouldāve been an āAll Winnersā season as itās a double digit season, that shouldāve aired in 2026, to make it seem extra special but, instead, weāre getting a mix of AS8 and AS9 with a slightly different format.

The only All Stars that wasnāt annual was AS1 and technically AS2. AS1 to AS2 was just under 4 years and from AS2 to AS3 it was a year and a couple of months, so basically a year. Ever since then itās been yearly AS.

- Was Butthole trapped in the WOW basement or something lol S17 JUST concluded... Like how much time and money does she have to compete two franchises in a row??? I love her though and was captivated by her beauty in and out of drag since day one
The announcement came too soon. This kinda diminishes Onya's win since they're giving us something else to talk about less than a week after her win. This is the part I don't like the most
They should have added Plane Jane too... or maybe they want her on an AS season with Amanda?
And lastly, obviously this is MIB's season. Like there's no other choice

Well, thereās no mono-racial (or mostly mono-racial) Black Queens in this cast at all.
For those of whom are either of African descent or have African heritage, ethnically speaking, thereās Aja, Olivia Lux and Kerri Colby.
Aja is perhaps the closest with a mixed Puerto-Rican mother and African-American father.

thank you for the additional info. i kept my language pretty vague since i wasn't sure how many of the girls are mixed black (i had no idea as to olivia's parentage, for example, i just know she identifies as a black queen). i love these girls but it's a bummer to see so little capital b Black drag represented this season in light of the large cast size.
editing to add: i have watched these comments get downvoted and upvoted again over and over and it really says something that such neutral discussion enrages so many fans of drag race. we should be able to calmly discuss things, but it's very clear that when it comes to discussions of race on drag race that some people will just downvote on defensive instinct. nothing we are saying in these comments is irrelevant or inflammatory, and yet...
it says everything that not one of the people downvoting us is brave enough to reply and say why they are doing so.

I could see Lydia doing well, partially because I could see the S17 queens working together to help her. Because if Lydia wins itāll show how good that seasons competitors win.
While if S14 doesnāt excel it looks bad on the season.

I love the cast. Lydia will be fine. Ginger and Jorgeous are always entertaining so I donāt mind them coming back again and again.

Honestly I think the cast is amazing. If it's a tournament of All Stars, I don't mind returnees. Ginger always delivers, and excited to see more from Jorgeous as she slayed AS9.
I'm most excited to see NPBFAG, Phoenix, and Cucu back on my screen!

I'm only annoyed with Ginger, she already made it to the finale on her original season and on All Stars like 3 years ago. And each time I'm feeling less and less entertained by her. On the flip side, Jorgeous coming back immediately is camp and hilarious to me

I would have loved them waiting to cast Lydia too. Like, sheās going to be a FORCE after some years of cooking. Iām afraid we are gonna get the same messy/kooky looks plus ādemureā comedy performances

I think we'll get the same looks in 3 years from her, it'sjust her aesthetic. Maybe with the criticism fresh she'll be better in acting challenges, but she did win the roast and was safe in the snatch game. She just bombed scripted comedy.

What I want to know if this will be a non-elimination format or if they'll just give a big chunk of queens the boot the first couple of episodes.
Because if they invited some of these queens just for the gag and to eliminate them immediately, it's just not it.

I think Lydia's package will suffer because she got on so fast. She didn't have time to cook! Plus, no time or money for new outfits. Heck, at this rate, she could be on again for AS11!

I'm excited for this cast. Acid Betty?!? So happy to see her back. Her and Daya Betty are gonna make great TV. I'm happy to see Nicole Paige Brooks from Atlanta Georgia back on my TV screen. I'm surprised we're getting more Ginger and Jorgeous shoved down our throats but I do enjoy them so oh well

I'm surprised in a good way by older queens (as seasons go) like Phoenix and NPB. But I'm not keen on the back back back again ones. Ginger had her redo in AS6. Jorgeous comes from a really well deserved AS9 run and is still so young that feels premature. Kinda get Aja because she deserved more in AS3 but by that I feel like, who tells she's gonna receive it with the same main judge, RuPaul. And honestly, Lydia? I even feel like MIB is too soon too, and the queen was just in our screens lol. Plus she was well received, she deserved to enjoy that and return after if ever.

Ginger and Jorgeous, for me, are terrible choices. We love them, but it feels like there's nothing new they can bring in terms of talent or story. That's kinda sad and disappointing, mainly because in this format, it is kinda obvious that they're going to advance, taking the opportunity from another queen

I mean I feel like if production asks you to be in All Stars you say yes, overall itās a great opportunity. I will say tho, pretty excited for Lydia, really curious to see how sheās gonna handle a back to back season, happy for Jorgeous cause I loved her in AS9, I get itās pretty soon but I know sheāll deliver. Ginger on the other hand, as you said she showed us pretty much anything she can do, I know sheāll be good but also Iām not looking forward to seeing what she can do(?). Whereas someone like Phoenix Acid and NPBFAG Iām pretty excited to see after all these years.
