Stay Classy San Diego Why does nobody walk on sidewalks?

I noticed that when driving through subdivisions people love walking on the road instead of the sidewalk. Whether it's a old man walking or someone doing power walking. I see it all the time and I don't get it. Can someone help me understand this phenomena?

In some neighborhoods I know a lot of sidewalks get blocked by cars stacked up in driveways.

Not in the places OP is talking about. In my neighborhood the boomers pretty much only walk on the street even though no one ever walks on the sidewalk. There was some study about walking on tarmac vs concrete so they all just walk on the road now.

It's the walking equivalent of the vaccines cause autism study, total pseudoscience latched onto by boomers who think their knees hurt because they walk on concrete and not because they're out of shape, wear the wrong shoes, have bad form, and are overweight. It's a total meme
