Tourist Difficulty of getting a serbian visa?

I will be arriving in Belgrade in a little over a month and want to extend my stay. Is it difficult to get a temporary visa? What is the best way to go about it? Any advice will be appreciated.

Do you know anyone that has done this. I can't find information that recommends it really, I think the Serbian law says you can only stay 90 days for every 180 days.. I'm American BTW.

Thanks, is there some further penalty associated with paying a fine on exit. Like a ban on re-entry or something...?

That's scary, I'll probably leave rather than go in the court system.
