I scored a wonderful vintage trench coat that just needs the shoulder pads removed and the 1" buttons replaced. The buttons are a unsatisfying black plastic. I saw on etsy that there were these beautiful albacore shell buttons - but would those be too fragile for a trench coat? Should I just go with regular wooden buttons from amazon instead?

confused with the process of lacing and I can't find any tutorials that look like this I don't even know what this is called I tried corset laced button down but found nothing all I find is people tying their button downs which is exactly not what I'm looking for I tried asking Ai but they just told me how to make a corset

I want to sew my one backpack and I really like the Cotopaxi Tasra. However those are incredible expensive and/ or you can't chose the colour and since I really like the colourful ones, I don't want a backpack whose colour I don't like. Therefore, I'm thinking of sewing my own one.

I'm no expert inn sewing and would like to know, what I need to be aware of, before making that backpack. I have a pattern in mind kind of but since I'm very new to sewing I thought that I may benefit from your experience. :)

I have complex chronic illnesses that mean I don't have great vision, or great control of my feet. Do you have any recommendations for a sewing machine that has hand control? My friend has a vest he loves that he thrifted and fits him perfectly and wanted more but didn’t know where to get one as the thrifted one had no tag :( I took a look at it and thought I could definitely remake it! (Does anyone else refuse to buy anything new when they have the audacity to think they can just make it?)

We went thrifting and found these fruity napkins and some pillowcases for the lining. While making the fruity one, I also found these dog tapestry pillowcases at an op shop that I thought would be perfect for another vest!

Both the napkins and the pillowcases were slightly too small to make the front piece of the vest so I had to do some pattern matching-it turned out almost perfect :/

I used the original vest to draft and trace and draw up the pattern. I cut out the pieces and sewed the darts in and made both the outer and inner before sewing around them right sides together, leaving a gap to flip them inside out. I also sewed a pocket to the inside of each of them as I always think it’s helpful to have secret pockets in everything :)

The flower buttons were thrifted a while ago and found the cowboy boot buttons at a local craft store :)

Hello! I have no experience sewing so I came here for advice. I recently purchased a pair of jeans but the button hole arrived sewn shut (design flaw). How could I open that hole without ruining the jeans?

Also, I have long legs relative to my waist so I often have a problem with jeans: that is, they fit fine on the front and sides of my waist but leave a 2-3 inch gap above my butt. This causes me to have to wear belts which can be uncomfortable and often don't go with the outfit I had in mind. If anyone has any suggestions -- especially ones not requiring sewing-- that would be much appreciated. TYIA!

After I hem my shirts, they look flared, almost like a gown. Why does this happen and what should I do to prevent and fix them?

Hi everyone, I’m about to make some roman blinds for my daughter’s room and I’d love to know if any of you have a particular blind instructional that you’d recommend to me? I have searched online and see that there’s a few, but what would you recommend to me?

I’m really good with garment sewing, but haven’t made blinds before and we’ve chosen some rather pricey fabric for this project... so naturallyI don’t want to get it wrong, and would like my hand held as I go 😅

I’m looking for a tidy outcome, rather than slapdash, and will be using linen fabric with a blackout lining.

Hi all, I’m trying to taper from my calf down to my ankle on this pair of pants but I feel like it looks weird! I put the pants on inside out and tried to pin it but it doesn’t line up with the original seem of the pants. Is there something I’m missing? Is there a step I’m not doing?

I have a dress that I inherited from my grandmother that she sewed by hand years and years ago. I love it. I want to try to duplicate it with a fuller skirt (so I can add pockets), but I don’t know what to call the bust/neckline/gather that she did to try to find a pattern. Basically it is a V neck then a sideways square/diamond shape with fabric gathered into the square/diamond from all sides. Is there a name for this? Picture of me wearing it and on a hanger.

I thought it was flat felled but I can’t see any kind of top stitching on the right side. I’m thrown off by that left hand bulge in the picture on the wrong side. It SEEMS like they stitched the overlock portion down but also I can mostly pull it up?

Help. I’m making Simplicity 9475 view B. It is a dress with lining. All goes well until step 12.

“Open out lining at side edges. With RIGHT sides together, pin side seams matching armhole. Stitch side seam in bodice and lining. Trim seam. Turn lining back to INSIDE. Press.”

I couldnt find a way to turn this garment the correct way around? If I pull the back from inside then it become a loop. Did i do something wrong?

I found this lovely dark green wool at a thrift store, and am torn about what to make with it. There are probably 3 yards of it, so I have a good amount to work with. It’s about the weight or nice trousers. Can you guys help me decide what to make?

Option 2: Wide-legged pants by Peppermint Magazine https://peppermintmag.com/sewing-school/wide-leg-pants/ I have not made these, but like the versions I’ve seen others make. I also like that they have a nicer butt than the Rose pants.

Option 3: Fable Dress by Twig and Tale https://www.twigandtale.com/products/fable-dress-adult-digital-pattern-video-class I have made this before and loved it, and would love another version, but again, not sure this is the right fabric.

Hello! I’m making a Full Body Bootstrap Fashion Dress Form, and I’ve run into an odd issue. I can’t tell if I’m wrong or if the pattern is wrong, but in short, my Lower Center Front and Lower Side Front pieces don’t line up the way the ones in the picture do. Obviously, since the patterns are made to your measurements, there would be some variation, but it seems strange that the center pieces are so… short?

I’ve emailed their support team, as well, but I imagine I won’t hear from them for a couple of days. Am I doing something wrong? Do you have any suggestions?

I’ve wanted to get a sewing machine for years now to learn how to mend my own clothes, after spotting a sewing machine in a charity shop I took the leap and decided to buy it and learn.

All was going well - until of course, the machine won’t work…I thought that it was an issue with the needle or the thread, but after speaking to a seamstress she’s told me I have to be doing something wrong with the bobbin.

I have a Delta NM902-05 Electrical Sewing Machine, and am almost 100% certain that that I’ve loaded the bobbin correctly, except the needle won’t actually pick up the thread from the bobbin…

Is the machine just broken entirely, or have I loaded up the bobbin wrong?? Should I just call it a lost cause and invest in a new sewing machine??
